Greenville is a small town in the western part of the state of North Carolina. It was founded in 1837 by Colonel James Smith and his family. The town grew rapidly, and by 1850 it had over 1,000 residents. In 1857, Greenville became an incorporated city, and by 1865 it had become the largest city in North Carolina. The first ammunition factory in Greenville was built in 1856 by Wm. Sennett & Sons. This company produced rifle ammunition as well as artillery shell and shot shells. The company went out of business in 1860 due to competition from more efficient factories at nearby Raleigh. In 1870, John Browning opened his first Ammunition Manufacturing Company in Greenville with two warehouses and sixty employees. Browning's products included rifle ammunition as well as shotgun rounds, pistols, cannon balls, projectiles for fireworks displays, and other assorted munitions. The company continued to produce high-quality ammo throughout the late 1800s and early 1900s until it went bankrupt in 1908 due to overcapacity at its plants across the United States. After Browning's death in 1901, his widow continued production of her husband's products under her own name until her death in 1949. Over time, many other companies have succeeded him on the Ammo Industry throne including Winchester (1903), Remington (1899), PMC (1973), Hornady (1976), Federal Cartridge Company (1910), Barnes Bullets Incorporated (1982), Colt Arms Corporation(1873-1964) and finally Brownells firearms LLC which was created on July 1st 2018
