Greensboro is a city in the U.S. state of North Carolina, located on the Piedmont plain near theborder of Tennessee and Virginia. In 1849–50 Captain John Coker established a post office at present day Greenville which became an important center for trade with southeastern Virginia and southwestern North Carolina due to its location on the Danville Railroad network.. In 1865 – 68 Confederate General Jubal Early invaded South Carolina during the American Civil War and when he reached Greensboro he decided to rest his army there before continuing his march through central South Carolina towards Charleston Harbor
