There has been recent interest shown towards redeveloping portions east off I-485 along Hwy 401 known locally as Moorestown because there are potential uses for land that have not been considered or explored previously

Greensboro has been home to some of the earliest known humans in North America, including Paleo-Indians and early colonists from England and Scotland. The city's nickname "The City on the Hill" is based on its location on high ground overlooking downtown Raleigh and other parts of central Raleigh. The arrival of Europeans in what is now Forsyth County date back to 1627 when Englishman John Lawson discovered land that would become Greensboro. The first permanent European settler was James Iredale who arrived in 1639 after sailing from London with a group led by his brother Robert Iredale Sr.. In 1728 Samuel Johnston purchased 1,000 acres (400 ha) east of present day GreenSBoro for £100 with intentions of founding a town there but never moved forward with this plan. In 1765 Colonel Nathaniel Macon founded Fort Macon near present day Hillsborough while commandeering supplies from Fortazet settlement which he had just established south of Hillsborough along Yadkin River. With construction completed in three months it served as one stop on an extended trading route between British Columbia and Carolina across what is now eastern Virginia and southern Georgia. On July 12, 1765, during a frontal storm that created large waves over NC coast damage was done toFort Macon by driving out alligators found living there before being abandoned without occupation or further use about 1800 years ago today! Nathaniel Macon also built Chapel Hill Female Academy (later UNC Chapel Hill), which educates women until 1835; GreenSBoro became known as "Macon's Ferry" due to this event occurring only two miles downstream from present day GreenSBoro intersection off US Highway 421). From 1768 until 1814 Colonel Alexander Johnston commanded fort at what is now Hermitage Cemetery located near modern day Pemberton Road–just outside Greensboro proper –during times when Cherokee Indian raids were common throughout much of western North Carolina not only due to their strategic location but also because white traders were often caught up in these conflicts resulting in losses for both sides involved totaling more than $1 million dollars according as recorded by General Order No 21 dated January 27th, 1814: "All Officers are hereby ordered To take prompt measures against such Forts made within our limits & Protect Our Citizens Against any such depredations." One highly significant event associated with Greensboro during this time period occurred when negotiations took place leading up to passageofthe United States Constitution Convention held at Philadelphia’s Independence Hall on July 4th -July 7th1787 where delegates representing thirteen colonies met under consideration for ratification prior to becoming fully independent states within Confederation under the new nation –an event that laid foundation for American democracy many centuries later! In 1840s Confederate General Jubal Early reached Central NC via Appomattox Court House raid where he destroyed several stores including grocery store owned by John Brown at Mechanicville colony following unsuccessful attempt o subdue small force occupying colony minus Brown who had already fled en masse prior to raid
