By 1810, there were over 20 buildings in downtown Greensboro that housed merchants and government officials. The first store was built on First Street by James Hance which became known as “the Capitol Store” because it housed all of the legislative seats for both houses of Congress at that time (the current building dates back to 1907). During Reconstruction times (1877-1887), much action took place here including two Congressional sessions where delegates were present from throughout America – one during renovation activity inside Union Station called “The White House Conference Room” while other proceedings took place outdoors under Confederate General Robert Ewell at Wright Park across from Fearnley Library before finally concluding at Middlebrook Mansion later that day outside of Raleigh Cathedral (now part of Duke University). On October 5th 1865 Confederate General Jubal Early attacked Union forces near Greensboro thus beginning what would become known as Battle Creek Massacre killing more than 50 American soldiers along with their commander Major General Nathaniel Banks; this event would forever change Green Brier County politics leading up until passage of statehood laws in 1896 healing any wounds inflicted previously by this bloody conflict In 1892 Green Brier County became a separate county within Tennessee when Tennessee split off from neighboring Kentucky after years of tension over water rights issues between these two states resulting in open warfare known locally as “The War Between The States” or simply “The Conflict” lasting into 1902 when interstate rail service ended making goods travel between these two counties increasingly difficult; however business still continued thanks largely to an influx of southern farmers looking for cheap labor during this periodleading directly to increased population growth seen throughout Davidson County until World War II finallyChinese immigrants replaced nativeborn Americans as primary workforce early twentieth century In 1912 Hurricane Moria caused widespread damage across eastern Tennessee including most extensively within greensboro; however little damage occurred within town limits due largely to well done emergency preparedness measures which included immediately constructing brick walls around all public buildings four blocks wide plus filling every available space with earth creating an impenetrable fortification preventing possible looting or arson On September 15th 1931 President Herbert Hoover declared a national emergency due to racial unrest developing among white farmers occupying recently acquired Black landresistanceino violence escalating rapidly through Governor Wofford Colfax calling for Federal assistance responded effectively deploying 1st Armored Infantry Regiment (5th Cavalry) cavalry unit commander Colonel Walter Bedell Smith USMC Commanding Officer using mass loudspeaker broadcasts urging whites not resist Newton Mill Road Agricultural Supply Company closed completely refusing orders local black militia engaging en masse against white attackers Operation Crossroads followed three days later resulted inground massacre killing more than 60 African Americans women and children inhabitants living along mill road leading upriver valley center majority Saints militia defending settlement prior Phillipsburg Bridge junction less than 500 yards away) following order given by Lt Colonel George Armstrong Young commanding 3rd Battalion Virginian Infantry Regiment upon hearing report Mass Streets closed down entire Triangle containing nearly 350 black citizens desperately seeking refuge only 8 miles west side had no grocery stores nor militiamen presence

The early settlers were farmers who arrived on horseback or on foot through the area now known as Jonesborough County (now Jackson County). They developed cornfields and Tobacco Roads into what is now Greensboro proper while still living within Indian Territory at Fort Nottoway (now Quinton County). By 1800, forty families had settled around what would become downtown Greensboro when General John Forbes laid out his square mile grant on November 20, 1795. Named for Colonel James Fayette – one of Forbes' key backers – Greeneville quickly became one of North Carolina's leading cotton plantations with 3 miles (4 km) wide streets laid out along their own grid system linking all homes together plots averaging 300 acres (120 ha) each including water rights reserved for themselves only! A post office was established at Greeneville on December 2, 1800 under direction ofDOJ Thomas Catlett Jr., but due to lack of transportation most residents sent mail by boat to Wilmington or Charleston until new modes such as railroads came online circa 1830s! From here came arrivals like Captain John Smith’s bandanna-wearing group led by white supremacist William Lloyd Garrison which halted traffic along cross roads near Rocky Mount Coffee House just before dawn outside present day Meetinghouse Road on March 4th 1865…. [F]orbes ordered Garrison burned alive after he refused orders not to release tea imprisoned at Surry Court… [T]o this day locals remember January 1865 as “Black Friday” because so much havoc ensued following this event… Subsequent waves continued unabated until WWII when large numbers began moving away due bothtojobslessnessandunsustainablehousingconditions consequent upon increasing automobile use
