The first gun locks were patented on December 12, 1847 by John D. Snively. The patent was for an invention known as the Snively Gunlock. This lock consisted of a metal plate that was affixed to the inside surface of a door or window and had a padlock-like device fastened to it. The gun lock could be locked by depressing the triggetter keyhole in the back of the plate and turning it anticlockwise.
Graham, North Carolina is a small town located in Gaston County, north-central North Carolina. The population was 2,619 at the 2010 census. Graham was established in 1868 as a small community on the banks of the Yadkin River. In 1870, it became an incorporated town and on December 12, 1875 it received its current name from then-Governor James B. Graham. The primary industries in Graham during the early years were agriculture and fishing; however, over time much of the economy has shifted to services and technologyemployment growth in recent years. The first settler in Graham was John Hagan who came to the area in 1821. A few years later, Frederick Cramer arrived with his family and began building homes around what is now downtown Graham. In 1828, Samuel Bryant started operations as a general store in what is today known as Bryant Street which served as a hub for local trade until 1861 when Union troops burned down the store on Easter Sunday morning during their march through Gaston County to arrive at Fort Fisher Landing). By 1860 there were twenty two businesses operating within one mile of downtown Graham; this included twelve stores and four blacksmiths! As more people moved intoGraham throughout its early years, roads were built connecting town with outlying farms and rural areas so that goods could be brought easily from one place to another without having to ride horses or walk! In 1865, when Confederate General Robert Ewell invaded Gastonia County he sent forces through towns such as Graham including those located on both sides of the Yadkin River (the victorious Union force reached Johnson City only after crossing overland) forcing many residents south towards Roanoke Island where they remained for several weeks before finally being evacuated by boat back upriver to safe havens onshore near Wilmington. Many of these same residents returned home during THE GREAT REBELLION OF 1865 & afterward some managed get land grants that allowed them considerable property holdings outside of downtownGraham - most notably Jimmie Dixon’s 10 acre tract along Yadkin River just east of present day Interstate 95)! One resident who did not return home during THE GREAT REBELLION & subsequent Reconstruction period was JnoD Nixon (1863-1935), son of James Nixon (1824-1893), one of “Jim” Dixon’s earliest settlers! After THE great revolution many families left for various reasons including war service & economic opportunities available outside their home statelines; however quite a few continue to live & workin DowntownGraham thruout this century! There are currently over 100 businesses operating withinone block radiusof DowntownGraham!, which includes restaurants/ cafés/bars/nightclubs/mallards etc.; all while still maintaining an incredibly vibrant downtownscape!!!
Graham was founded in 1836 by Col. James Graham and his wife, Sarah. The town became a county seat in 1855 and then a state capital in 1870. In the early 1800s, Graham was home to several plantations that raised slaves. After the Civil War,Graham became an important center for textile production. The town also played a significant role in the development of North Carolina as a state.
