The town was renamed Raleigh after John Fayette Raleigh, one of the signers of the United States Constitution. In 1885, Raleigh was incorporated as a city with a population of over 100,000 people.
Graham is a town in Duplin County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 1,592 at the 2010 census. The town was founded in 1828 by General Robert E. Lee and his wife Elizabeth Johnston. It originally named for Governor John Graham of South Carolina. Graham is located on the Yadkin River, about south of Raleigh and east of Hendersonville. It is bordered to the north by Moorestown and to the south by Chapel Hill. Interstate 385 borders Graham to the west and I-40 to the east. Highway 41 leads into town from Moorestown on its eastern border The name "Graham" comes from an early settler's daughter, Sarah Graham, who spelled her first name as "Gram." After Sarah's parents died in 1827 she married General Robert E. Lee and they changed their last initial to "Lee." Her husband served as a general during both causes during Reconstruction in America - he later became a Ulysses S Grant Confederate general during the American Civil War (1865-1868). In 1865 he surrendered at Appomattox Court House presenting himself for trial as a war criminal before being pardoned by President Andrew Johnson In 1828 General Robert E. Lee purchased what is now known as Grady land from James Blythe near present day Union University; it had been given to him by Governor John Graham of South Carolina in 1799 when that state joining forces with Virginia against George Washington's Federalists following his inauguration as President of America (1789-1797). This tract extended along present day US 421 between Raleigh and Chapel Hill includingpresent site of Graham which lay within Blythe’s boundary until ceded after Johnston’s victory at Battle of Kings Mountain on November 15th 1861 which resulted in Alabama taking over most of Duplin County including present site of Graham with only Moorestown remaining under Federal control As soon as General Robert E Lee received title deed from Govt.-John Grafton Collier Dec 11 1830 it shows original plan called: “Grady Land purchase from James Blythe” .It seems this piece was never patented or registered due legal confusion surrounding patenting grants at that time especially since much like our current townships we were formed largely through strips cut out of larger plantations-offers suggest grantees didn’t really understand how things worked grantee may have misunderstood concept because there was no such thing then as deeds/patents bought & sold like there are today

Graham, North Carolina is a town in Buncombe County, North Carolina. The population was 1,821 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Asheville–Mountain View Micropolitan Statistical Area. Graham's history can traced back to 1881 when it was founded as a small farm community on the edge of Cherokee Lake by Colonel John B. Graham and his wife Anna M. Graham. In 1907, Colonel Graham donated land for a public high school and Gymnasium which remains in use to this day as Graham High School. The town was incorporated in 1909 and became an officer-in-chief of the United States Army during World War I before returning to civilian life following the war. In 1930, Driggs Wartlesberger donated land for the first municipal water supply system in Graham and since that timeGraham has had its own municipally-owned water plant which provides drinking water to all citizens free of charge! The downtown district which includes both the high school & municipal buildings was named after Mrs. Wartlesberger with help from her husband Driggs Wartlesberger who also helped finance & build much of what now exists in downtown Graham! In 1957, Reverend James Hines organized "The National Baptist Convention of America" (NBCA) from areas including Durham, Chapel Hill & Raleigh into one organization - a move that signaled significant changes within American religiosity over the coming years! In 1961-1964 Rev Hines served as President of NBCA's Western Division headquartered in Jackson Mississippi - an experience that would have a lasting impact on black nationalism across America! In 1969 Rev Hines moved his headquarters permanently from Jackson Mississippi to Greensboro NC due to increasing political tensions between African Americans living across racial lines & white supremacists! A few years later he passed away from cancer but left behind an ongoing legacy within NBCA!! It wasn't until 1985 when local entrepreneur Donnie McClendon purchased 5 acres east of downtownGraham along US 311 and began building what would become known as McClendon Place - one of Asheville's most successful residential neighborhoods!" McClendon Place quickly became known for its variety of architecture – eclectic ranch style homes dating back to 1925 were soon replaced by more modern / professional designs throughout the late 1980s thru early 1990s!!! Today McClendon Place continues to thrive with limited housing developments taking place primarily around Pioneer Road/Old Mill Road areas inside or adjacent thereto!!"
Graham, North Carolina was founded in 1795 by John Graham. The area now known as Graham was first settled by the Cherokee and other Native Americans. In 1819, the United States acquired the land from Britain at the Treaty of Ghent. The town of Graham was established on this land in 1824. The town grew rapidly during the 1830s and 1840s, thanks to its location near a major transportation route and its access to resources such as coal and lumber. By 1850, Graham had a population of around 1,500 people. During the American Civil War, Graham sided with Confederate forces against the Union side. After the war ended, Graham became an important hub for trade in eastern North Carolina. In 1865, after Reconstruction occurred in America following the Civil War, Graham lost some of its status due to new laws that discriminated against African-Americans. However, it regained some of its importance later in that decade when it became home to Eastern Carolina University.
