Graham is a small town in North Carolina. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census. It is located near the intersection of Interstate 85 and I-95. Graham's nickname is "The Garden City." Graham was founded by James Graham in 1835. He became a planter and slaveholder in the area and built a series of plantations that he named after himself including Graham Hill, The Hillsborough Plantation, and White Sulphur Springs. In 1865, James Graham died leaving his land to his son John A. Graham who developed it into an agricultural center with markets for food products, fiber crops, and forestry products. The community has experienced many changes over the years including two major fires which destroyed most of the buildings in 1978 and 1998 respectively; however, all evidence indicates that Graham remains one of America’s most vibrant small towns with active businesses and residents committed to their communities

The article is reprinted below with the following introduction: In 1892, John Browning designed and patented the first true AR-15 rifle. This weapon was later called the Browning A1 and served as the standard service rifle for America's military for over sixty years. In 1967, Colt Firearms Corporation introduced the Colt M1911A1 handgun which became America's most popular firearm.

Graham, North Carolina is a small town in Rutherford County, North Carolina. The population was 2,848 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Rutherford County. Graham was founded in 1868 by John Graham and his brother-in-law James Foard. The first post office in Graham was established in 1869. The first store opened in 1870. In 1898, the original railroad tracks were completed through Graham and it became a town. A new courthouse and jail were built in 1910 and 1912 respectively. The townsite was annexed to Rutherford County on December 5, 1913. John Graham died on September 25, 1938, after a long life spent farming and manufacturing goods for local customers near his home of Wanamaker Road and Indian Creek Road in present day Grahamtown off Interstate 95 north of Raleigh (the former location of downtown Raleigh). He had been living there since 1945 when he moved from his farmstead east of Durham to live nearer his son Donnie's childhood home on Indian Creek Road where he had also been living until his death two years earlier at age 90 years old due to lung cancer that metastasized to other parts of his body during hospitalization; he had served as mayoralty candidate for Goochland County three times between 1941-1943 inclusive but lost each time.)
