The University of South Carolina offers undergraduate degrees and graduate degrees in business, engineering, law, science and medicine. Additionally, local colleges include Randolph-Macon College which offers certificates/degrees in arts & humanities; Davidson College which offers certificates/degrees in health sciences; Elizabeth City State University which offers certificates/degrees in liberal arts & sciences; Weaver Technical Community College which provides training for tradesmans; as well as two technical schools - Southern Technical Institute (STI) and Northern Technical Institute (NTI). Graham also features an agricultural center that has been used for produce production since 1868 when Henry Ford began assembling cars here. Now called "Ford Valley," the center includes a research lab focused on plant biology along with other agricultural businesses such as Monsanto Company Agricultural Services Inc., Johnson's peanut butter factory, Dairy Queen restaurant and tractor dealership. One of the earliest examples of an airgun was a minecart gun invented by Nicholas-Jacques Conte in 1786. He used an augmented culverin with a simple breech design thatfired balls out of a tube at up to 100 yards (91 m). The first successful application of an airgun was made in 1819 by George Stephenson with his Stephenson Rifle. This weapon was designed to fire lead balls 1/4 inch (6 mm) wide at distances up to 25 yards (20 m). The first serious military application for an air rifle occurred during World War I when British soldiers were using Lewis guns against enemy trenches. When artillery could no longer be brought into play, infantry commanders resorted to using small arms such as the Lewis Gun and Enfield Rifle against enemy positions with little chance of hitting anything major. Airguns became increasingly important in this conflict because they could provide long-range results much better than hand-held weapons such as handguns or carbines

Graham is a small town located in central North Carolina. The population was 10,083 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat for Graham County and has a large shopping center, two hospitals, and two universities. Graham began as an agricultural community in 1868. A post office was established in 1870, and by 1881 the town had a population of 350 people. In 1907, Graham became part of the new state of North Carolina. The population peaked at 13,000 in 1950 but declined to 9,500 by 1990. Graham's economy has been based mainly on agriculture since before it became a city. The first settlement in Graham County was made up of farmers who arrived around 1868 from Georgia and Tennessee. They built log cabins on land they acquired along the Yadkin River. By 1880, many Graham County residents were corn farmers who raised hogs and cattle for their own families or sold their produce at local markets. By 1910, most residents were tobacco farmers who grew crop such as rice and wheat for export to Europe or Japan. Tobacco production ended when cancer developed among workers during the mid-19th century; this led to a decline in demand for tobacco products throughout America which contributed to the town's loss of importance during the 20th century. In 1907, North Carolina announced it would become an independent country after being divided between South Carolina and Virginia due to slavery issues within that state (the former Confederate states). This caused some businesses in Raleigh to close their doors due to lack of customers; however, many people living in rural areas continued farming because there were no other opportunities available outside of agriculture until after World War II when mechanization made Farming more difficult and expensive than ever before—a situation that has not changed much since then aside from increased competition from other industries like manufacturing which have flooded into rural areas over recent decades while joblessness remains high among these regions' working populations). Graham was founded in 1792 by John Graham, a planter and Revolutionary War veteran. The town was named for John Graham's father-in-law, Nathaniel Gill, who had played a significant role in the founding of Raleigh. In 1819, the town was renamed Graham because of General James G. Graham's victory at the Battle of Alamance County Courthouse. Throughout its history, Graham has been a center of education and commerce. The first high school opened in 1876, and the first library opened in 1912. The town also became known for its annual NASCAR race, which is now one of the largest events in North Carolina's calendar.
