Gastonton is a small town in Gastonia, North Carolina. The population was 9,886 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Gaston County and the economic center for the area. The first gun mag in Gastonia was founded in 1892 by three men who pooled their money to purchase a pistol and ammunition. There were no arms dealers or firearms stores in Gaston County at that time so the founders had to go through local farmers to get their supplies. In 1916, Gaston County passed an ordinance prohibiting handguns within its borders. This ordinance made it difficult for people in rural areas to obtain guns and contributed to the crime rate in Gaston County being one of the highest in North Carolina. In 1967, another ordinance was passed regulating handgun ownership and use within gastonia limits. This ordinance did not take into account recent advances in technology which allowed people with permits to carry handguns openly without feeling violating state law. As a result of this new regulation, many gun shops closed down and Gun Owners of America (GOA) formed to help defend against these restrictions. GOA has been instrumental in helping keep firearms available for citizens throughout her community by working together with retailers, manufacturers, distributors and other organizations to promote responsible firearms ownership.

Gastononia is a town in Gastonia County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 2,813 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Charlotte–Mecklenburg Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in Gaston County was Jonathan Boone in 1793. In 1814 William Pritchard founded the town of Gastonia on a tract of land that he had purchased from James Caldwell for $1,000. At first it functioned as a small village with just a few families. However, because of its strategic location as an endorheic salt marsh and its agricultural potential, Gaston County quickly became one of the most important in North Carolina due to its commerce and industry. The first post office was established in 1815 and named Gastonia after General John Custer who had fought during the American Civil War at Battle of Waterloo and helped lead the Union army into victory over Confederate forces near here on April 12, 1865. In 1868 local farmers formed a private militia to prevent vigilante justice being exercised by white supremacists who were terrorizing African Americans living within their community (the so-called "Gaston Massacre"). This event is considered to be one of the earliest examples of race riots in America. In 1888 Walter Dean Myers opened his grocery store on Main Street which soon became known throughout Gaston County for its fresh produce, meat products, baked goods and other items not found elsewhere in North Carolina at that time. Myers’s store remain open today as one of the last remaining original businesses located within Gaston County limits still running today with all current operations taking place inside his building including online sales and delivery service through Amazon Prime members only!
