When Gastonia became a city in 1868, the first firearms were confiscated from criminals. The next year, Gaston County was divided into two parts, and one part became Gastonia. The area around Gastonia had been inhabited by the Cherokee for centuries before white settlement began. The first gun shops opened in Gaston County after the American Revolution. In 1792, Colonel James Mooney founded a rifle company called North Carolina Riflemen. From this company grew the tradition of firearm ownership in North Carolina. After the Civil War, many Confederate officers surrendered their weapons to Union troops. This resulted in an increase in demand for firearms throughout much of South Carolina and Georgia. As a result, gun shops popped up all over the South as people sought to acquire new rifles and pistols to protect themselves from Reconstruction policies that were aimed at restoring order and returning Southern whites to power. In 1865, while Confederate General Robert E Lee was fighting onetime United States President Ulysses S Grant near Richmond, Virginia, his army stopped at Pee Dee River Bridge over which traveled Interstate 95 (I-95). Confederate General Braxton Bragg also stopped at Pee Dee River Bridge during this time period; however he did not surrender his sword or any munitions to Union troops because he believed that such action would end the war prematurely and guarantee his victory. Consequently, it is uncertain whetherBraxton Bragg actually surrendered his cannons or not after reaching Pee Dee River Bridge . Gun stores began opening up all across the state thanks to increased demand from these new shooters. By the early 1920s, Gaston County had become one of the most prosperous counties in North Carolina due largely to its booming farming industry which supported many local breweries and other industries during this time period. As farming became less profitable later on in the 20th centuryCrime rates started soaring throughout North Carolina due to advancements made by organized crime groups such as Al Capone’s gangster syndicate which controlled much of Northern America at this point. Gastonia, North Carolina is a small town located in Gastonia County, North Carolina. The population was 1,890 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg area. The first settler in Gastonia was James Moultrie, who arrived in 1795. In 1824, William Byrd founded Gaston College and purchased land for it on which to build a brick college building that still stands today. Gastonia was originally named "Henderson" after Henderson County, Tennessee. On May 7, 1865, General Robert E Lee's army passed through Gaston on their way to Gettysburg and discovered the town had been abandoned by its inhabitants. They burned all of the buildings and left behind only a few traceable items such as bricks and mortar from the college building which still stand today. A post office called Gastonia was established in 1829; it closed permanently in 1904. In 1845 David Lane built a cabin near what is now downtown Gastonia on land he had purchased from Colonel John Harnett for $1 per acre (or $40 per year). Lane spent many years expanding his holdings until he became one of the largest landowners in Gastonia County with over 100 acres (40 hectares). He also developed several mills around here including Oneida Mills (now defunct) and Hermitage Mills #2 (). Lane died in 1888 and his heirs sold most of their holdings to Jno Harnett Sr., who continued to operate them until his death in 1925(). After World War II there were several small farms operated by veterans returning home; these eventually became known as "ghost towns." The last farm operation stopped operations at about 2006 when all but one crop failed due to lack of rain or moisture.. In recent years some new development has taken place including apartments being built near downtown along with a grocery store,. But overall much remains unchanged since Henderson's heyday more than two centuries ago

Gastonnia (meaning "place of the Gaston family") was founded in 1755 by Sir Walter Raleigh as a new settlement on the Hiwassee River. The area now known as Gastonia was originally part of Cherokee County, North Carolina. In 1819, it became part of Union County. In 1861, Confederate General Robert E. Lee and his army attacked Union forces at the Battle of Gastonia. The battle resulted in over 100 casualties for the Confederacy and five Union officers were captured. After the battle, Confederate General John Coker ordered his troops to burn down all buildings in Gastonia without allowing any damage to be done to them or their property. This event is considered one of the most significant events in town's history. As a result of this burning spree, many businesses and homes were destroyed and most people who lived there left within weeks or months after the attack occurred. Some residents did manage to rebuild but many more lost everything they had ever owned or invested in Gastonia during that time period." The town burned for three days before finally being put out into flames by local militia members under orders from Confederate General Jubal Early. Because so much property was destroyed, not a single person was arrested or brought to trial for participating in what is now called Town Burning Day - an act which remains a sore subject among locals today".

The Battle of Gettysburg took place near Gastonia on July 4th, 1863, during Confederate General Robert Ewell's attempt to invade Union territory. In 1968, Gastonians successfully petitioned for secession from the United States and became an independent state called Carolina. On November 3rd of that year, Governor Waddell appointed Judge John B Durham as their new governor and served until 1971 when he resigned due to term limits set by the state legislature.
