In 1892 Arthur Waddell took over management of what became known as North Carolina's National Rifle Association (NRA) factory at Factory #1 in Raleigh, which he had purchased from George Hudson Jr., one of America's leading firearms dealers and manufacturers since 1868 when rifles were being made for military use only under license from European nations with regulations that required no more than fifty rounds per gun per month! This NRA plant continued manufacturing shotguns until 1924 when it closed due to lack of demand for them amidst changes in technology and American taste for handguns which led to an increase in production for shotguns by other factories throughout America including Remington Arms Company and Colt Firearms Manufacturing Company among others during this time! In 1954 Edwin Melson opened his own company - Melson & Sons - making barrels for both revolvers and pistols beginning with a single barrel shotgun called the Model 1947 that he produced exclusively here at our factory starting with just sixty barrels completed before orders compelled him to expand production into thousands! continued success led him to open another factory near Charlotte where he manufactured high quality pistols until his death in 1984 having built some 10 000 guns there!!
