Fayetteville is a small town in the state of North Carolina, located in the Pender County region. The population was 9,521 at the 2010 census. Fayetteville is part of the Asheville-Mountain View, NC Metropolitan Statistical Area and it is included within the Greensboro–Winston-Salem Combined Statistical Area. Fayetteville has been inhabited by Native Americans for more than two centuries. The first European to visit Fayetteville was Captain John Smith in 1753. The town was platted in 1819 by Major General James Robertson, who named it after General Nathanael Greene's older brother – Sir George Washington's father – Colonel James Robertson. In 1861, Confederate General Robert Ewell attacked Union forces at First Battle of Bull Run near Fayetteville and destroyed much property including a public house built by Major General Nathaniel Banks that served as headquarters for Union troops during this battle. In 1865, Union forces under Ulysses S. Grant defeated Confederate GENERAL Robert Ewell at Second Battle of Bull Run outside of Fayetteville while also destroying most of Ewell's supplies and equipment. The settlement around what is now downtown Fayetteville grew rapidly due to its strategic location on both sides of the Holston River between Henderson County and Buncombe County; boundaries were not well defined until after railroads arrived in 1885 which made transportation much easier and allowed for larger towns to form near their terminals (such as Asheville). By 1900, there were over 2,000 people living in downtown Fayetteville when Interstate 95 connected it with other parts of North Carolina via four interstates: I-95W from Henderson County east to Chapel Hill/Murphy Battlefield Airport; I-40 from Buncombe County south to Salisbury; I-495 from Durham through Newton north to Lexington; and I-24 from Gaston east across Robeson County into Cherokee Nation Territory (now Oklahoma). In 1961–1966 local governments formed an urban growth area called "Fayettevilians" which became one city with a population over 10,000 people when Raleigh annexe

In 1996, California became the first state in the United States to allow tasers use as part of its law enforcement apparatus. On November 5, 2006, Governor Schwarzenegger signed into law AB 965 which gives jurisdictions greater latitude in using tasers for investigatory purposes.

Fayetteville is a city in northwestern North Carolina, United States. The population was 19,098 at the 2010 census. Fayetteville is the county seat of McDowell County. It was founded in 1829 by Colonel John C. Smith as Fort Smith on the Watauga River and named for General William Thomson, 3rd Baron Kelvin of Scotland. The battle resulted in Union losses but helped spur military activity around Fayetteville and contribute to its growth as a seaport during Reconstruction period. A new courthouse was built in 1865 and renamed State Capitol Place after then-Govs.[1] By 1900, over 50% of all textile production in North Carolina came from Fayetteville,[2] leading to increased development around downtown including high-rise housing developments such as One Guernsey Place[3][4] and Fourteenth Street Station (now known as NC State University's Main Quad). In 1984–85, Hurricane Floyd caused extensive damage to downtown areas rapid redevelopment began with many new businesses opening up including Biltmore Center mall which anchored this revitalization effort[5][6][7]. Today much of what once characterized downtown has been replaced by modern office buildings[8], though some older landmarks remain visible such as One Guernsey Place[9] or Fourteenth Street Station (now known as NC State University's Main Quad).[10][11]
