The 7 individuals who took up arms were: John Denton (the leader), James Caldwell (a member of the militia), Eli Price (an African Americansmith), Hiram Dewey (a white lawyer from Greensboro), Thomas Dixon(a white farmer from Charlotte County), and Levi Coffin(an enslaved man). It was not until after this event that it was realized that these people had taken up Arms because they believed that their fellow citizens were being wrongfully imprisoned or oppressed by authority figures.

Fayetteville was founded in 1784 by General James Moores and Named for General Nathanael Greene. A smallpox pandemic that swept through the colonies during the early 1800s killed many people in eastern North Carolina, including many in Fayetteville. In 1838, militia Captain George Armstrong Smith burned down allapist buildings within 1 km (1 mile) of downtown Fayetteville after insurgents burned down the state Capitol building nearby. The Burning of the Capital inflamed local passions against slavery and mobs gathered around Smith as he conducted business inside the burning building while flames spread across it. On October 12, 1838, Major Robert Ewell burned down two Negroes' huts near what is now downtown Fayetteville while they slept; this event became known as "The Burning of Negroes'. One hundred years later on March 3rd, 2008 Mayor Ivy Taylor announced that an agreement had been reached between African American businesses Downtown and developer Samuel Ziegler to includeAfrican Americans as part of their development plan for downtown areas throughout Durham County; this led to protests from some black residents who felt their rights had not been recognized
Fayetteville is an incorporated town in Fayette County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 13,871 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Fayette County. The first permanent settler in what is now Fayetteville was Nathaniel Banks, who arrived in 1772. He named his new community after General George Washington and the Battle of Bunker Hill. The name stuck and the town prospered until 1881 when it was merged with neighboring Greensboro to form the current city of Fayetteville. Fayetteville's early history can be traced back to 1772 when Nathaniel Banks landed on Catawba Island to establish a trading post with Virginia colonists. After several years of effort, he built his first store and home here in what is now downtown Fayetteville. In 1779 Captain John Smith founded blockhouse No 1 on present-day Jones Ferry Road which served as a checkpoint for traders transporting goods from Virginia to North Carolina. The first courthouse was built here in 1781 by Judge Thomas Gentry and later moved to Raleigh due to budget constraints. By 1810s there were over 50 stores and 30 homes operating within downtown radius alone; this growth continued through much of the 19th century when trade became less important than railroads, travelers increasingly bypassed inland towns, and shipping docks grew closer to major cities such as Raleigh or Wilmington (the original port). In 1861 Fayetteville became part of Confederate States of America during the American Civil War because most residents refused to join a “Northern” state that had seceded from Congress four years earlier while they still owned many slaves (the Confederacy needed African Americans for labor). When Union troops burned down Banks' store property following their withdrawal from battle in 1865 most people chose not to rebuild; some did choose this option however recent research indicates that about two-thirds of all businesses closed by 1865 were re-opened within six months afterwards under new ownership or management - something that would have been difficult if not impossible given high unemployment rates at this time throughout much Southern America at large%. Most citizens returned home soon after Union forces retreated from Atlanta; however a few thousand soldiers stayed behind as occupation duty through Reconstruction period until finally leaving federal territory in May 1926 when it became known as South Carolina under Supreme Court decision "Brown v. Board" . Most everyone who left except for a handful of elderly men (~1%) gathered around Catawba Island where they abandoned everything they owned before being transferred across Anacostia River into newly formed Washington D C .. From here they petitioned US President Woodrow Wilson unsuccessfully for amnesty before being forcibly removed by US Marshals arriving on trainloads just days prior to Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation which ended slavery throughout much U S A .. From Catawba island 2% (.087 million) lived beyond 1915.. Overall 300,000 African Americans lost their lives during our country’s experiment with racial equality
