The city is located on the Savannah River and borders Georgia to the east and South Carolina to the north. In 1830, Elizabeth City annexed parts of neighboring Robeson County; this led to increased growth and development in Elizabeth City itself over time as annexation became more common throughout Robeson County due to its proximity to key markets such as Wilmington and Raleigh/Durham. During World War IIElizabeth City played an important role in supplying munitions for Allied forces fighting in Europe; many early American graduates from nearby colleges served with distinction within the military during that war including Admiral Chester Nimitz and General George Patton among others

One interesting note aboutElizabethCity - aside from its well-known status as an educational center - is that it also became known as "The Cauldron" during much political unrest preceding voting rights demonstrations leading up to the 1965 UPI Civil Rights Observation Mission within its Limits - specifically referring to then Sheriff Brenton Wicker's efforts on behalf of white supremacists during those tense times; nevertheless residents have been overwhelmingly supportive of Mayor Pro Tem Darrell Issa's recent effort seeking cityhood via referendum less than two years after becoming mayor...
