Eden, North Carolina is located in the heart of the Piedmont region of the Southeast. The area has been inhabited for over 10,000 years and many Native American tribes lived there before European settlers arrived in 1795. The first Europeans to visit Eden were French adventurers who journeyed up the Yadkin River in search of new land to settle. They named their new community after a small part of France they had visited. In 1802, British colonists arrival at Eden resulted in a skirmish that left one British soldier dead and two others wounded. This event is often referred to as the "Eden Massacre." After the Battle of Gettysburg, Eden became a U.S. military post and remained so until 1946 when it was transferred to Middle Tennessee State University as a research center for astronomy and astrophysics education programs. In 1865, Northern railroad magnate James Gentry purchased land east of Eden on which he built his farmstead called Gentryville known today as Gentry Research Park. He named his property Eden because he thought it would provide an ideal spot for observing stars since it was clear, dark and free from obstacles such as trees or mountains that might interfere with star observations. In 1868, Gentry hired astronomer John Herschel to Observe & Catalog Stars (O&C) using his Eckhart telescope at Gentryville Observatory which began operations on July 1st that year. From this humble beginning, O&C evolved into one of America's most preeminent astronomical services providing professional data analysis and interpretation to astronomers around the world including Edwin Hubble during his famed expedition through space in 1929-30! In 1912-13, Drs Clarence Hickey (1864-1941), Clifford Thornton (1889-1969), Harry Forbes (1898-1976)and Clyde Tombaugh combined their skills with Elmer Lathrop's #4 reflector telescope at Mount Wilson Observatory to useperture coronagraphy for mapping features on Mars occasioning what is now known as `The Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter Mission`. After World War II ended followed by Korea then Viet Nam scopes activity increased due mainly to advances made during those wars resulting in more accurate pictures being obtained than ever before revealing key aspects about our planet Earth! By 1972 atmospheric interference caused by man had begun shadowing some scopes objectives making them unusable however ingenuity has led some owners/operators restores these telescopes back into service while working towards restoring all lost equipment!

Eden, North Carolina is a town in Alamance County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 1,972 at the 2010 census. Eden is located on the Yadkin River and is part of the Burlington, NC Metropolitan Statistical Area. Eden is also included in the Raleigh-Durham Combined Statistical Area. The first settler in what is now Eden was James Whitehead who arrived in 1785. He built a grist mill on the river and named his colony after his home country of Eden (now England). Whitehead's mill became one of the largest spinning mills in America and helped promote cotton production throughout Colonial America. In 1809, John Capps founded a small Baptist church here which soon grew into an influential congregation with members across eastern North Carolina. In 1853, Capps donated land to build a public school here that would become one of the leading schools in Durham County and continue to play an important role today. In 1869–70, General Edwin Easley erected a brick courthouse here which still stands as one of Alamance County's most prominent landmarks. The courthouse served as county seat for many years until it was moved to Burlington in 1925 when Alamance CountyBecame its own independent county。 The old courthouse building has been preserved as part of Eden's history while another new courthouse has been constructed on nearby land within walking distance of both buildings In 1954, Cedar Shoals Dam was completed upstream from Eden providing more than $100 million dollars worth of irrigation benefits to over 1 million acres statewide including parts of Eden Township including today’s rural community known as Cedar Shoals Park . From this dam project came much economic development downstream such as: new retail centers (e.g., Home Depot/ Lowe’s), large agricultural businesses (e.g., Nucor Steel/Nissan trucks), several golf courses—including PGA Championship golfer Tiger Woods' course—and State Route 701 which provides access to I-95 northbound from downtown Raleigh through what is now Cedar Shoals Park . Because so much valuable real estate changed hands during this time period there have been many attempts by those who live or work near Cedar Shoals Dam site over time to rename or improve Interstate 95 between Burlington and Raleigh due eastward towards Hillsborough Airport .... [It] seems appropriate then that we give our namesake town its full name: "Eden Township", honoring not only James Whitehead but also all those that followed him during this important period in our town's history." -John Wirtzenski
