Eden, North Carolina is a small town in the Pender County area of North Carolina. The population was 2,811 at the 2000 census. Eden is located on the Eastern Seaboard of the United States and bordered by Surry County to the east and Morehead County to the west. It is part of the Charlotte–Mecklenburg metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1875 by John Gwynn and his family who moved from Raleigh, North Carolina to what is now Eden after purchasing land there from James treaty man David Henderson. There were two stores and twelve households when it was platted in 1875. In 1886, one store and three homes were built new on Main Street which became known as "The Avenue." In 1905, Eden voted to become a city with a single councilmember elected at-large for a four-year term instead of electing individual councillors every year like it had been done up until that time. The first mayor was Aiken Witherspoon who served from 1906 until 1909 under then-city manager Everett Cogswell. From 1912 until 1916 two mayors served concurrently – Jnoes Rankin (1912-16) and Willis Hoyle ( 1916-1918). Two years later in 1918 Hoyle resigned due to health reasons while Mayor Rankin took over as interim mayor until he could be elected as president of NCABI (National Conference of American Indians). After World War II ended, Eden's economy shifted away from agriculture towards manufacturing although there still remains some farming activity today. At its peak in 1961, Eden had a population of 3,000 people with 1,500 residents working in manufacturing jobs within the town limits outside of town limits also employed within those limits; this included approximately 150 farmers who raised corn or soybeans on their own acreage out near milepost 279 on I-95 between Durham/Fayetteville and Greensboro/Winston Salem respectively. After 2000 only about 100 people live within town boundaries these days making it an agricultural village surrounded by industry now

Eden was a small town in McDowell County, North Carolina. The first settlers were white men from Scotland who immigrated in the early 1800s. In 1820, Eden built its first store and began to trade goods with surrounding towns. The community grew quickly, and by 1830, Eden had a school, post office, and three churches. By 1835, the population of Eden had grown to 350 people. There was also a cotton gin and bakery in Eden. In 1837, the town voted to move to a new location on the eastern edge of McDowell County. This new location would be known as Eden Springs. However, by 1840 only 20 people lived in Eden Springs while 300 people lived in McDowell County overall because of the Civil War (1846-1849).
