In 1892, Cornelius, North Carolina was home to the first open-air shooting range in the United States. The range was built by James W. Gibson and opened to the public on July 1 of that year. TheGunnery Department of the Marine Corps used the range for training purposes until 1936 when it closed due to World War II. The Gunnery Department reopened in 1946 and continued operations until 1984 when it was permanently closed due to budget cuts. Today, only a few remnant pieces of this once mighty department remain in Cornelius; however, its legacy lives on through its annual championships at the NRA Range Championships which are now held at nearby Fort Bragg.

The Gatling Gun Pants quickly spread through other armies including British Empire where they saw similar use by their Indian allies during WWI; ultimately leading directly into WWII!

Cornelius was a town in Caldwell County, North Carolina. The first white settlers in the area were Andrew Jackson and his family who moved from Tennessee in 1819. They built a cabin on the banks of the Catawba River. It is said that General Andrew Jackson was so impressed with what he saw that he ordered all of his troops to move to Cornelius. The community grew quickly and by 1830 there were over 100 people living there. By 1840, it had grown to over 350 people and by 1850 it had reached 1,000 people. At its peak, Cornelius was an important trading center for the area and produced some of the most important agricultural products in Caldwell County.
