Concord, North Carolina is a town in Forsyth County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 2,547 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Raleigh–Durham–Carrboro Metropolitan Statistical Area. Concord was founded on December 12, 1798 by General John Forbes and his officers as a military post to protect settlers in what is now Forsyth County from Cherokee Indians. In 1814 Concord became the seat of government for all of Forsyth County after Raleigh was burned by rebels during the War for Independence. In 1828 Concord became an independent city and continued to be governed by its own City Council until 1951 when it merged with Raleigh to form the current city of Raleigh. The first settler in what is now Concord was James Caldwell who arrived in 1798 with his family from Virginia. He built a cabin on land that he purchased near present-day Hillsborough Street and named it Caldwellsville after himself and his father-in-law Captain George Carruth (1753-1827). The first store opened in Concord on October 20, 1800 by William Watkins under license from Governor Johnston of North Carolina. By 1821 there were 10 stores operating in Concord with a total population of 1,500 people living within a radius of 3 miles (5 km). There were also five taverns and three churches located within this radius. In 1824 General John Blythe moved his army headquarters from Rocky Mount to Fort Fisher which served as the primary base for operations against Native Americans occupying eastern Tennessee and northern South Carolina during the War for Independence. On July 4th, 1825 General Blythe's forces invaded Cherokee territory along the Durham River northeast of present day Creedmoor Road in present day Forsyth County destroying most of their village before withdrawing back into Cherokee territory two days later without achieving their objectives or taking any prisoners or materialiles . In 1828 Drury erected a log cabin on what is now known as Mockingbird Lane just south of Interstate 85 east of downtown Raleigh while another early settler named Ebenezer Beavers constructed another log cabin nearpresent Day Harnett Parkway about one mile north west off I-85 opposite US Mail Route 27. By 1830 there were six homes/housesites scattered around this area including Ebenezer Beavers' home which still stands today overlooking Mockingbird Lane next to Church Hill Cemetery dating back to 1840 featuring gable roofingsimilar to that used at nearby Cary Chapel today

Today, Concord is a small town that retains its rural feel with farms and forests near the downtown area.
