The community's output diminished as well during the 20th century due to a variety of factors including World War II shortages of munitions and other materials needed for manufacturing; economic decline followingWorld War II; automobile production becoming more prevalent; and suburbanization throughout much Buncombe County beginning in the late 1960s/early 1970s
