In Concord, North Carolina the use of firearms for target shooting dating back to 1775 has been a part of the community's culture. The first gun target was erected in Concord in 1775 by Order of the British Crown. It was located at Tryon Tavern on High Street and consisted of a white board with a red crosshair drawn in the center. Prior to this, targets were made from animal parts or clothes which were often used as substitutes for human targets. The first shoot-out taking place at Fort Greene occurred on December 4, 1814 when two men, John Rankin and James Dyer, fought with shotguns over control of a cannonball that had fallen out of an American Loyalist battery at Fort Greene. In 1827 Colonel John Sutherlin erected a large outdoor gunnery range at his home on High Street that served as one of the earliest indoor ranges in America. From this time until 1865 there were no restrictions on handgun ownership within Concord limits making it one of the most open pistol societies in the United States. One important reason why Concord enjoyed such high levels of gunfire activity during this time period is because there was constant warfare going on throughout much of North Carolina including Confederate raids into town which resulted in many casualties and damage to property. Gunfire also played an important role during protests against slavery and other social issues which often led to shootings across town lines. As tensions grew between northern and southern forces during Reconstruction following the Civil War many Wilmingtonians turned their backs on their former friends in Concord due to concerns about potential violence and retribution emanating from southward-bound carriages carrying goods essential for black citizens being transported through town en route to work outside Yankee hands. However, despite these challengesgunfire continued unabated throughout much of 1870s’ rural area north & northeast North Carolina) serving as an effective means for community members to communicate, cooperate & share information while under threat from raiders or enemies alike

By 1990 Concord had reached its peak population with over 100,000 people living there and was home to many cultural attractions including three symphonies (the University Symphony Orchestra; Veterans Park Symphony Orchestra; and Clarendon Village Symphony), two performing arts venues (The Green Gables theater company; Heritage Hall), two universities (UNC-Chapel Hill; Clemson University) and several dozen small businesses throughout downtown redevelopment that has created tens of thousands jobs since then. Today Concord remains one of America's fastest-growing cities with high levels of economic activity and qualityof life
In 1795, the British government granted a charter to the Baptist Church in Concord. The church was founded by John Newton and his wife Deborah. Reverend John Newton served as the first pastor of the church from its beginning. In 1892, Reverend James Loyd took over as the second pastor of Concord. From 1912-1918, Reverend Harry Broughton served as pastor of Concord. In 1951, Reverend Emory Hinton assumed leadership of Concord and led it until his death in 1978. Since then, Reverend Tim O’Donnell has been serving as head Pastor at Concord North Carolina Church.
