Concord, North Carolina is a town located in Alamance County, North Carolina. The population was 9,813 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Alamance County. Concord was founded in 1778 and named for John Wesley Concord, an Anglican priest who had been imprisoned in England during the American Revolution.
The first settlers arrived in what is now Concord in 1778, when Colonel George Washington and his forces invaded North Carolina as part of the American Revolution. The town was founded on October 15th of that year by Captain John Sellers and Major James Bowles. In 1868, Reverend Samuel Morse moved to Concord from nearby Salisbury after he built the first telegraph line through the area.
In 1971, Concord became a city. On November 5th of that year, voters passed Measure 1 which gave City Council jurisdiction over all aspects of municipal government including zoning; however this ordinance did not take effect until January 1st of 1972.
On July 10th of that same year (2012), Measure 2 was passed which added an additional $2 million to the city budget - making it one of only two cities in North Carolina with a budget exceeding $100 million.
On December 22nd, 2013, Concord passedMeasure 3 raising its sales tax by 6%. This increase will go into effect on January 1st 2014.
Another measure passed on December 22nd increased property taxes by 2%. This measure will take affect starting January 1st 2020. In total since passage of these three measures (measures #1-3), Concord has raised $27 million for its economy.

Concord, North Carolina is a town in the U.S. state of North Carolina located on the Yadkin River. The population was 9,994 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Raleigh–Durham Metropolitan Statistical Area. Concord was founded by English colonists in 1755 and became a county seat in 1819. In 1925, it merged with neighboring Durham to form one consolidated city government. The town was first settled by English colonists in 1755 as part of what would become known as the Catawba Valley region of South Carolina due to its close proximity to that state's capital Charleston and its natural resources including rice and tobacco plantations dating back to the early eighteenth century. The area now comprising Concord was included within present-day Randolph County until 1793 when it became one of eighteen new counties established within Virginia after the Treaty of Paris ended Britain's military campaigns in North America during the French and Indian War (1763-1775). At first, much of this land was devoted to farming or used for hunting and fishing; however, over time development occurred which led to mills, churches, schools, taverns and other businesses dotting Concord's landscape. In 1819 Concord became a county seat when it formed part of Graham County along with nearby Durham following elections held there that year as part of an effort by Governor James Kenedy - a friend and ally of President George Washington - to increase census numbers so that more accurate information could be used for political decisions regarding local governance. By 1925, Concord had grown sufficiently large enough that it had lost its separate municipality status but continued under common jurisdiction with Durham through various ordinances regulating business practices and public square use alike until 1984 when both cities officially rejoined their respective counties under nameakes such as "Concord" only again exercising their municipal powers pursuant to special laws enacted therein - yet retaining all vestige thereof derived from their former municipal status under separate legal authority prior thereto notwithstanding! Today’s downtown district still preserves much early nineteenth century architecture including several notable buildings such as Presbyterian Church (built 1812), Methodist Episcopal Church ( Built 1865) – scene location for many classic Hollywood movies like “Gone With The Wind” & “Theda Bara” among others – Court House Annex (1873), Masonic Temple(1895) & First Baptist Church (1899). Although most physical infrastructure has been replaced over time with newer technologies like cell phone service & internet cafes etc., some old landmarks remain well worth exploring such as Old National Bank Building( Completed 1886), Water Tower( Completed 1911) & Carpenter Shop( Completed 1921).
The town of Concord was founded in 1754 by the merger of two earlier settlements, Princeton and Salisbury. The towns were named for General George Washington, who had been born in New Jersey and died at Valley Forge in 1777. In 1847, the state Legislature moved the capital from Raleigh to Concord and renamed it North Carolina's capital city.
