There are also several churches located within walking distance of downtown; such as First Baptist Church (founded 1792), Methodist Episcopal Church (1834), Presbyterian church (1890) and Christmastime markets take place each December across from George Washington Park close to Interstate 85/75 exit 217A/B.

On October 1, 1870, when gold was discovered near Swainville in western Buncombe County (), Concord became one of several towns within Confluence Township (now part of Monroe) which received mail service from Asheville through Johnston Station on stagecoach routes starting in 1876. At this time only post offices were located within individual townships; services were provided by county-wide mail systems until 1911 when these too were discontinued due to budget cuts. Asheville's rapid growth after World War II led to an influx of people looking for jobs outside their homes: businesses opened up where there used to be nothing but farms or rural residences. This migration created Costs@Concord - an effort by local officials to raise money for infrastructure projects such as roads and schools - which helped maintain overall population growth over subsequent decades while also creating opportunities for both locals and outsiders alike to interact with each other on an everyday basis without feeling isolated or alone in their small town setting
