In 1840, an Irish Catholic chapel called Our Lady of Lourdes became operational within a few miles of downtown Concord; services were conducted there until 1865 when it moved to nearby Hillsborough due to land restrictions placed upon Cherokee Nation Catholics by white Protestants during Reconstruction Era America (1865-1968). The last post office closed within Concord on Saturday night September 14th 2002 after more than 60 years serving residents of this small city situated next to UNC Chapel Hill with its rich history!
