In 1851, Clemmons was founded as a small community of about fifty people. By 1865, the population had grown to over two hundred and seventy-five people. The town was named for Colonel James Clemmons, an American hero who fought in the Mexican-American War and was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor. In 1884, the town became an incorporated municipality. In 1916, the town became a parish within St. John’s Episcopal Church following a merger of several smaller villages in North Carolina. The first scopes were designed by telescope maker Amos Kendall and were made from wood and metal materials. They used simple lenses with graduated magnification powers to allow observation of large objects at close range. A few years ago… Reverend Jules Michelin took up residence near Mont Blanc [and] started making very high power telescopes using mirrorless technology….. These days there are probably only a dozen or so professional astronomers living primarily or principally withTelescopes…… One might think that with all these advancements along side advances being made regularly by our own eyesight we should really start seeing more things happening out there other than just moonbats looking through their microscopes! But alas! That is not always what happens….. We continue encountering situations where discoveries made with Telescopes lead us nowhere because we cannot see beyond them! It is interesting to note that despite La Combedu Puy having many advantages over later instruments such as those developed by Mr Jefferson, due solely to its location atop Mont Blanc it failed utterly to take off commercially…. even though telescopes like Mr Newton’s reflector did achieve much greater results quickly…………… It seems likely that Nicolas-Jacques Conte simply didn't have enough faith in his creation especially since La Combedu Puy wasn't actually seen throughout much Celestial Space until after improvements were made subsequent to Mr Jefferson's design? However given how significant Telescope discoveries often led directly towards technological innovations this failure shouldn't be surprising at all….. After all if Telescope innovation always leads us down unintended paths then why haven't Telescopic technologies become more widespread among average Joe humans like ourselves?

The first permanent settler in Clemmons was Wm. Elisha Pickens in 1814. He built a log cabin on the site of present-day Clemmons High School and named it "Pickensville". In 1834, Col. John Cushing made a Donation to the Methodist Episcopal Church in which he donated land for what would become Clemmons Elementary School and later West Park Elementary School. In 1865, David Sills purchased land from Col. Cushing and named it "Sill's Valley", after himself and his father Dandridge Sills Sr., who had also donated land for both schools. In 1868, Samuel Hance erected the first school building on lot No. 4 in Clemmons Township that would serve as the cornerstone for what would become Clemmons High School (later renamed Pickensville High School). In 1960, when Wilson County merged with Durham County to form unified Chapel Hill/Durham County, much of what now formsClemmons Township originally came from Durham County including portions of Morristown Road and Loch Raven Boulevard which were annexed by Chapel Hill following that county's creation; these areas are currently known as Lakewood Village along Loch Raven Boulevard east of I-40 between Garner Road and US 421 exit 214A/215A). The only part of Clemmons Township that still remains within Wilson County is section 2 (west side) of Morristown Road between Garner Rd./US 421 exit 214A/215A & I-40 exit 219B/220B). This area became known as "Old Mill District" because many mills located there closed during the 1990s due to advances in technology such as electronic manufacturing plants near Interstate 40 Exit 218B aka Old Mill Rd.). It wasn't until 1970 whenClemmon Manor was built on lot No 3 in section 2 (west side)ofMorristown Road between Garner Rd./US 421 exit 214A/215A & I-40exit 219B/220B), becoming one of only two homes ever built outside of Asheville adjacent to Interstate 40 without any zoning restrictions or requirements other than an owner occupant agreement(the other being Cherokee Park across US 421 exit 215E off SR 819E just south of Cherokee Lake).
