Until the early 1800s, Clemmons was one of the most important and populous cities in North Carolina. It was known for its Tobacco production and its many mills which manufactured goods such as cloth, shoes, hats and other items. In 1801, a group of British traders founded the town of Portsmouth in Clemmons. The town became a manufacturing center for guns and ammunition, and it soon became home to some of the most influential men in North Carolina. One of these men was John Brownell, who helped found the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Brownell also started several businesses in Portsmouth including an ironworks and a shipyard. These businesses led to Brownell becoming very rich and powerful within his community. In 1817, he purchased land in Clemmons that would become known as the Patterson Estate. The Patterson Estate would be used primarily for agricultural purposes until around 1920 when it began to be used as a gunnery range by local firearms dealers. Today, portions of the Patterson Estate still remain undeveloped and are popular tourist destinations for those interested in history or shooting sports.

Clemmons is a small town in North Carolina, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of Greensboro–Winston-Salem County. Clemmons is located on the border of Randolph and New Bern counties. The town lies at an elevation of 663 feet (202 m). The first known American settlers in Clemmons were James Epps and his family from Scotland who arrived in 1775. They built a cabin on what is now downtown Clemmons and named it for their home country, Cleggie. In 1814, General David Dennison founded Randolph Station on the Yadkin River, about east of Clemmon. This station served as a stopping point for travelers travelling between North Carolina and Virginia. In 1861, when Confederate forces invaded North Carolina, they established Fort Fisher near present-day Fort Mill outside of town to prevent Union troops from entering the state through Randolph Station. In 1865, after the end of World War II and following the war's devastation throughout much of Tennessee,Clemmons became one of the few communities in Tennessee not affected by postwar reconstruction efforts. In 1959, Drs. Clarence Bogan and Willis Witherspoon opened what would become one ofClemmons' most wellknown businesses: Witherspoon’s Pharmacy which would continue until 2001 when it merged with JB Hi-Fi to form JB Hifi Incorporated; later that year it changed its name to Clear Channel Communications Corporation effective February 2nd 1960 After years of growth within Clear Channel Communications Corporation (CCC) - including acquisitions such as Suddenlink Communications Company (SUCC), Infinity Broadcasting Corporation (IBC), Viacom Media Networks Inc., Cox Enterprises Inc., Time Warner Cable System Inc., Bright House Networks Company (BHN)), Comcast Corporation (CMCSA), Charter Spectrum Internet Systems LLC (), Verizon Wireless systems incorporated) - during 2003 CCC announced plans to divest itself of all its cable systems nationwide including CLEMMON’S own system in order to focus more resources on digital media investments such as satcaster owns XM Satellite Radio service

Clemmons is a town in Union County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 1,839 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Raleigh–Durham metropolitan area. The town was founded by John Clemmons and his family in 1853. He laid out the original village site on land that he had bought from the Chowan Indians. The first post office was established in 1855, and the first school opened in 1861. In 1865,Clemmons became a county seat following the creation of Union County from portions of Dare County. Clemmons has been home to two colleges: Davidson College and Wake Forest University. The college campus dominates downtown with its grand old courthouse, popularly known as "The Great Courthouse." Other landmarks includeidempotively named after ClemmONS residents such as Cherry Hill High School (now Eastern Carolina University), Factory Creek Pioneer Cemetery (now Elmwood Cemetery), and Rockingham Chapel (later First Baptist Church). Other local businesses include Carthage Forge Restaurant & Bakery, Newsome's Market & Gift Shop, Dooley's Hardware & Store, Wilburn Furniture & Appliances, Holyoke Tire Place and Cotton Bowl Inn--the latter now defunct but once a popular nightspot for locals and visitors alike due to its location just across from Catawba Battlefield State Park near what is now Carrboro Municipal Airport
Clemmons was founded in 1868 by John and Elizabeth Clemmons. The Clemmons family has been involved in the area since their founding. They started a grocery store on what is now State Route 6 inClemmons, and eventually grew the business into a large chain. In 1925, the Clemmons family sold their business to J.C. Penney Corporation for $2 million. The Penneys continued to operate the store until it closed in 1987.
