Clemmons is a town in Bladen County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 5,231 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Raleigh-Durham metropolitan area. The community began as a small hamlet on the banks of the Yadkin River near what is now Clemmons Mall. In 1892, John Clemmons founded Clemmons Mills business dynasty that operated mills and flour shops until 1923. They also built a gristmill in 1903 which still stands today and operates as a museum and tourist attraction. The family continued to operate their mill until it closed in 1964 due to World War II bombing damage. In 1986, Adolphus "Al" Clemmons donated land to developCLEMMONS Town Center which included an amusement park, restaurants, retail stores and office buildings including Clemmons High School and its annexes which house many local businesses including two post offices (the original Post Office building being destroyed by fire in 1915). Today CLEMMONS Town Center remains one of the most vibrant communities in Bladen County with over 60 independent businesses operating within its boundaries providing essential services such as employment for locals and international tourists alike!
