One of Clemmons' most important figures during its early years was Congressman Julius Caesar Robinson Sr., who represented the area from 1913-1917 and 1919-1927. After World War II ended, manyClemmonians migrated to other parts of North Carolina or left the community altogether because of economic hardship caused by postwar inflation and changes in social norms brought about by new military technologies like radar and jet travel.
