The Courthouse Complex was built in 1853 and served as the county courthouse until it was replaced by the current building in 1911. The first settler to arrive in what is now Clemmons were John Wade and his family who arrived on July 14th, 1792. The original land that Clemmons sits on was granted to Jacob Ackerstrom by General William Tryon for $1,000. The town of Clemmons began to form when James Henson purchased a piece of land north of present-day Clemmons from Ackerstrom on March 3rd, 1814. Henson named his new home "Hendersonville" after himself and other settlers living near Hendersonville acquired property east of present-day Clemmons. In 1870, David Boice donated 4 acres south of the courthouse complex to build a schoolhouse which would serve as the community's first library. In 1909, Leland Sutherlin donated 2 more acres to build an addition onto the schoolhouse which would become known as "Sutherlin Hall". On December 10th, 1912, voters approved a bill providing for rural electrification and designatedClemmons as one of three counties within North Carolina responsible for providing power to their residents according to specific timelines outlined in legislation dating back to 1907-8known as the Electric Light Administration Plan or ELA Plan- thus becoming one of America's earliest communities wired with electricity while also being one of its most northerly communities situated on UNC's campus serving students from Chapel Hill through Durham metropolitan areas In 1951 (following enactment by NC General Assembly known as "The Statehood Bill"),ClemmON became an unincorporated community when it seceded from Gaston County following passage by state lawmakers designating itself instead under Rule 12(b) of NC Statutes §32C-4(a), further delineating its municipal boundaries subsequent thereto: becoming part of Gastonia Township effective January 1st following year; thence joining Newton Township effective February 1st; thencejoining Rocky Mount Township effective April Fool's Day 1960; thencejoining Gastonia City effective May 1st 1970; finally annexing Caldwell Parish effective November 15th 1980 after successfully petitioning both NC House AND Senate thru proper channels thru local newspapers ; thereby creating today’s municipally recognized boundaries for what once was just two inactive villages forming part onlyofGastonCounty .

Clemmons, North Carolina is a small town in Cabarrus County, North Carolina. The population was 1,828 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1821 by Andrew Clemmons and his wife Eliza Stephenson. The first post office was established in 1825. In 1830, the name of the town changed to Clemmonsville after Andrew's brother-in-law John Cline who had moved to this area from Lexington, Kentucky. In 1835, Samuel Ashe bought a tract of land near Clemmonsville and built what is now Ashe Chapel on it. In 1843, James Aiken donated land to the community for a public school which became known as Aiken High School. The first store opened in 1845 and the first schoolhouse was built in 1850. The community also developed churches (First Baptist church being built in 1870) and a jail (1847). A fire destroyed much of Clemmonsville on November 4th 1861 during a tornado outbreak that swept through eastern NC that day. More than $1 million worth of damage was done with over 100 homes lost including most of the downtown business district which still stands today as one of America's most devastated neighborhoods during this time period . Reconstruction began soon after with many new homes being erected within rebuiltClemmonsville At present day there are few active businesses or residences remaining from pre-tornado days but some interesting artifacts remain such as Tower House which served as both home and courthouse for many years before it burned down in 1996

Clemmons was founded in 1792 by General James Moore. The town was named for Colonel John Clemmons, a Confederate officer who fought in the Battle of Raleigh. In 1868,Clemmons became the county seat of Rutherford County.
