Clemmons is a town in Edgecombe County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 3,651 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Asheville metropolitan area. Clemmons was founded in 1784 by Col. James Clemmons and his wife Elizabeth Weaver. The first post office in Clemmons opened on July 21, 1836, and remained open until it was discontinued on December 12, 1911. The original settlers were Scots-Irish Presbyterians who arrived from Ireland around 1800. They built log cabins and did not plant crops until after they had moved to America. After a few years they began to grow tobacco and also raised chickens, hogs, pigs and horses which they sold for meat or hides to other settlers near them. In 1814 James Clemmons married Anna Hinson (baptized January 7th, 1797 – died October 9th 1865) an American woman born in Randolph County Virginia of English descent who came to this country with her parents about 1800 as a slave girl owned by Captain John Cochran of Roanoke Island . Anna Hinson bore him three children: James (1815–1868), Anna Belle (1817–1900), and Samuel Hardison (March 12th 1820 – November 2nd 1903). The family moved two times during their residency in western North Carolina before coming permanently to Edgecombe County when James Clemmons purchased land here from the Transylvania Company in 1835."

Clemmons is a small town in Carteret County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 581 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Asheville–Cary Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community was named for John Clemmons, an early settler and also a member of the North Carolina General Assembly. Clemmons had a log cabin built in 1819 and continued to live there until his death in 1875. His daughter, Aggie Clemmons Fordham, ran the first store in what is now Clemmons and served as postmistress from 1892 until 1922. In 1903 local farmer Waddy McGee donated land to build a school and Baptist church on what is now Main Street. The first school building was completed in 1907 and dedicated by Governor James Gee. A new school building was constructed on present day Park Avenue (Route 246) in 1967-1968 when the original structure became too inadequate for students and staff at the new high school being constructed nearby on Tryon Road (now Chapel Hill Rd). Clemmons was founded in 1853 by Nels Clemmons and his wife, Nancy. In 1865, the town changed its name to Charlotte and it annexed the neighboring communities of Newton and Umstead in 1872. The population of Clemmons peaked at 10,000 in 1920 but fell precipitously during the Great Depression. By 1940, Clemmons had a population of 486 people. The community experienced rapid growth during World War II as Memphis-based businesses relocated to Clemmons to fill wartime production needs. However, following the war,Clemmons slowly lost its economic significance as a manufacturing center. In the 1990s,Clemmons became home to two small schools and several churches before becoming an all-purpose town with few specific economic interests remaining
