However, this didn't work very well so a man by the name of John Mechanic started making triggers for shotguns in 1875. This made it possible for people in Clayton to own guns without having to go out and buy them. In 1825, a courthouse was erected here; it remains one of the few remaining court buildings from that period in Cloverdale Township (now part of Chapel Hill). In 1850, a Baptist church was founded here by Rev. Elias Biscoe with land donated by James Gadsden; it has been called one of America's earliest black churches. In 1860, a millrace and dam were constructed near this site to provide water for farming operations; they remain extant today as part of Clayton's water supply system. A post office called "Cotton Gin" began operation at this site on November 15, 1865; it served until May 22, 1870 when it became known as "Winston Salem". It had been renamed "Cloverdale" since 1862 because much of what is now Clayton had been annexed into Winston Salem over time--the name stuck until 1925 when all vestiges of Cloverdale were eliminated when Winston Salem annexed most of Chapel Hill proper including Clayton Village itself! A cotton gin reopened at this site on October 9th 1925 under new ownership and continued serving until December 15th 1939 when it closed because production stopped due to World War II relative shortages which impacted many industries across the US At that point onlygenre pulp magazines continued printing issues #1 through #9 from this facility
