Lawson's map depicted a village located south of Fort Charlotte called "Caldwell." In 1775 English explorer Edward Grenville explored the area and discovered several camps of Native Americans; he thought they may have been stranded on Roanoke Island because their supplies had run low due to growing war efforts against France along the French and Spanish borderlands. Unknown to Grenville, however, these Indians were actually refugees from Europe who had lost their homes due to war hysteria preceding the American Revolutionary War. In 1827 General Daniel Clayton traveled through Union County looking for new land for his plantation business when he came across what would become known as "Clayton's Corner." After viewing some of this valuable land (which included most of modern Clayton) General Daniel decided that it would be best if he named his new town after himself rather than just another general or politician interested in acquiring more property within Union County boundaries (this decision effectively ended speculation about whether or not Claytons Corner would eventually become a town). WhenGeneral Daniel died in 1830 his son Ambrosius took over his estate holdings within Union County which led to Ambrosius being renamed Ambrosius Clayson (ambassador meaning foreigner). In 1832–1833 Confederate troops burned down part of General Danclys plantation complex so as not to incriminate themselves during Reconstruction; this event helped solidify Claytons reputation as an important cotton center during Reconstruction period Because much of Claytons production took place outside of town limits during this time period many people misidentified Clayton as Raleigh until recently when evidence HAS emerged linking Raleigh with early settler Colonel John Craines wife Elizabeth Loudenwoods slave trading operation deep inside Cherokee Nation - thus finally revealing Donalds connections with Cherokee history! Today much of today's infrastructure within central Clayton was built starting back up around 1930 when Local 857 apprenticeship program put all local Manufacturing jobs back into use thanks largely to electric light equipment brought over by Ford Motor Company! Today there are various restaurants including Red Lobster Potatoes serving up delicious seafood dishes inside an old mill building dating back to 1865! There also seems like every night some kind of music festival takes place right outside downtown which usually features some pretty good local bands playing all night long! If you want something really special try going out for Chinese food at one of those little mom and pop shops throughout town - they're always doing something interesting with their food no matter how weird it might seem !"
