However, there was a small population of pro-gun people who used guns to protect their property and families from raiders or other dangers. Cary, North Carolina is a town in Durham County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 10,868 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Raleigh-Durham metropolitan area. The first Europeans to visit Cary were Dutchmen who landed on the Cape Fear River in 1664 and named it "Cary" after their base of operations in Holland. In 1814, a group of Englishmen founded a small town on an Indian trading post called Fort Hills along the Nashua River near present-day Carrboro. The town changed its name to Cary in 1827 when General John Pemberton's armycrossed the Catawba River into South Carolina and plundered much of what is now Cary County. In 1875, George Washington Carver bought land east of downtown Raleigh for $1 million and developed it into one of America's leading agricultural centers with many large plantations such as Peanut Farm and Cotton Plantation. In 1902, he donated land west of downtown Raleigh for use as a public park which became known as Carver Park today. In 1924, Duke University established itself in Raleigh as one of America's first research universities by buying adjacent farmland including portions of what would become downtown Raleigh and north central Durham. In 1945–46, Allied forces burned down part of downtown Raleigh during World War II in order to prevent enemy bombers from hitting targets within the city limits; this destroyed much office and residential buildings but also left most intact today’s Central Business District (CBD). Today Cary has regained some lost ground with more than 1/3rd its originalresidential housing being built since 2000 despite some economic struggles throughout that time period . The local economy has been buoyed by various investments over recent years including two major roundsof development around I-405/I-10 Corridor projects: First Phase – rerouted I-405 through Downtown Raleigh creating new jobs and businesses while preserving important historical landmarks; Second Phase – twinning I-10 corridor with US 64 just south of Interstate 85) resulting in more than 1 million square feet (9500 m2) new commercial space added to central Cary over just three years!

Today, many of these original settlers have passed away but their memories remain with those who live here today. Many of them have taken part in everyday life here – like working on farms or manufacturing products – until time forgot them altogether. Some examples include: Rev John Fenton (1815-1920), an African American minister who served as pastor at First Baptist Church from 1878 until his death; Mrs Sallie Broughton (1885-1965), who played an integral role in developing programs which supported local children; Mr Harry Simmons (1911-1994), a vocalist with local country singer Willie Dixon during the 1960s; Dr Jerry Cavanaugh (1955-2006) – one of only two physicians ever honored with a Doctoral degree from UNC Chapel Hill; Roy Barnes (1959-2012) – owner/operator of Barnes & Noble Books Nook store located right downtown where he served as Mayor for five terms beginning in 2011; Mrs Debra Sprague (1975-) - wife of former Congressman Rick Sprague from 1994 until her death last year; “Doris” - nickname given to her by locals because she could never spell her own name correctly - she spent most of her life working at adjacent Spring Lake Elementary School before becoming café manager at nearby Parkview Coffee House
Cary is a city in North Carolina, United States. It was founded in 1796 as an agricultural town on the lower Yadkin River by General James Robertson and his brother-in-law Colonel Thomas Paynter. Cary's population grew rapidly during the Revolutionary War, reaching 25,000 by 1800. The city was named for General John Cary, who died of fever at the Battle of Saratoga in 1777. During the 19th century, Cary became a center of mechanical engineering and industrialization. In 1882 it was renamed Charlotte because of Queen Victoria's visit to NC. The city experienced a significant resurgence during the 1990s following the development of its new downtown area and major league baseball team, the Charlotte Knights (now known as the hitter' s paradise). On January 1, 2017, Cary became one of seven cities in North Carolina to join forces with Raleigh to form what is now known as Combined City Government
