That same year also saw Carrboro gain city status from rural Johnston County due to generous donations from locally rich landowners including Judge James Robertson who donated land for what would eventually become College Park/North Campus at UNC-Chapel Hill (now known as Duke). In 1825 Carrboro passed an ordinance establishing female voting rights which helped contribute significantly to its growth into one of America’s most vibrant towns during that time period with women working Florence Boulware’s dairymaid business next door to Beginnings Bakery until her death in 1943; later being continued by her daughter Alice Boulware Shriver until her death in 1980 also leaving behind an ongoing legacy at both businesses across Main Street between Ashe Avenue & Chapel Hill Road!
