Carrboro is a town in the Outer Banks region of North Carolina, United States. The population was 10,763 at the 2010 census. In 1865, Confederate General Robert Easley surrendered at Appomattox Court House after successful battles against Union forces near Carrboro. As a result of this surrender, many Confederate military personnel were captured or killed including General John Buford who later died in prison at Fort Delaware in Delaware Bayou counties near Jacksonville Beach Florida. Aftermath of World War II saw increased growth for Carrboro as families migrating from war-torn countries found new homes here following the end of hostilities in 1945. Today's economy revolves around tourism which has contributed greatly to job growth throughout the community over recent decades while also increasing access to affordable housing options available through expansions within surrounding neighborhoods such as West End Village and East End Village
