Carrboro is a town in Hyde County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 5,814 at the 2010 census. It is the largest town in the Pee Dee region of South Carolina. Carrboro is home to UNC-Chapel Hill and one of two UNESCO World Heritage Sites in North Carolina (the other beingayette). The area that now makes up Carrboro was first settled by Scots-Irish miners and their families from Ireland in 1775 during the American Revolution. The Scots-Irish called the area "Carroll's Neck" after Colonel John Carroll who had helped lead them out of British captivity. After independence was granted to the United States, many Scottish- Irish immigrants continued to live in Carrboro until after World War II when they were replaced by African Americans from southern states such as Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi and Louisiana. During World War I, Carrboro served as an ammunition dump for Ulysses S. Grant's army because of its location on high ground near Wilmingtonport Gap on the Cape Fear River. After Reconstruction ended in 1865 following America's victory over slavery, some white farmers began moving into what is now Carrboro while others developed businesses around local cotton plantations which produced goods for export to England and other parts of Europe. Many Southern whites moved away during this time period as well; however, black people remained largely concentrated around downtown Carrboro until after integration became legal throughout most of America following Brown v Board of Education (1964). By 1970, only a small number of residents remain within city limits while most properties within village boundaries have been annexed by surrounding towns or villages since then. In 1990–1991 about 12% of Cartersville's population relocated within city limits making it one of few cities with a nonresidential population growth rate above 1%. In 2000–2001 about 21% of Cartersville's population relocated within city limits making it one of few cities with a nonresidential population growth rate above 2%. According to US Census Bureau estimates released in December 2009,[1] there are 624 residents living currently or formerly inside city limits and 101 residents living outside city boundaries who identify themselves as "nonresidents". As Of October 2016[2], there are 713 residents living currently or formerly inside city limits and 213 residents living outside City Limits who identify themselves as "nonresidents".

Carrboro is a town in Alamance County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 2,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Charlotte–Gastonia–Fayetteville Metropolitan Statistical Area. Carrboro is located on the Piedmont Plain and on the border of two counties: Alamance and Davidson. The first settlers to what is now Carrboro were farmers who arrived in 1772 from Virginia. The town was founded in 1838 by John Witherspoon and James Gadsden as a stop on their journey from Raleigh to Athens, Georgia. Carrboro was named for Colonel William Carr, who had served in the Indian Wars under General Braddock and against Cherokee Indians. In 1860, during the American Civil War, Confederate forces burned down most of the local textile mills before being driven off by Union troops under General Nathan Bedford Forrest. When Reconstruction ended in 1865, many African Americans migrated to Carrboro seeking new opportunities than what existed back in pre-Civil War Durham County. By 1875, over 50% of Carrboro's residents were African American or slave-owned; this number slowly decreased until it reached 20% by 1900 when white flight began to occur throughout central North Carolina after Reconstruction ended%. In 1907 Union Carbide Corporation built a large chemical plant near downtown Carrboro which remain an important factor in local economy and community today. While other businesses gradually closed around that time due to competition from larger plants elsewhere within North Carolina or outside the state altogether (due largely to Interstate 85), Union Carbide remains one of Carrowboros most prominent landmarks with its iconic red smokestacks still visible today from miles away! Carrboro experienced significant growth following World War II as both men and women returned home from service in defense industries all over America after V-E Day on September 2nd 1945; many found some temporary housing here while others started businesses such as small grocery stores (the first such store opened up just north of downtown) or restaurants serving general public for a fraction of what they would have received back home at that time (many people felt this area needed more retail stores given its limited economic development post-war). After coming out relatively unscathed during wartime bombings raids carried out by Japanese military across central North Carolina during Ifugao Province resulting in vast destruction including entire shopping malls obliterated along with thousands of homes/buildings destroyed - many locals believed that something must be done about cleanup since so much debris remained which blocked sunlight providing basic needs like water and electricity for civilians - hence led to establishment of City Council & Development Authority days later consisting primarily of ladies veterans/workers brought intogence largely through social work programs offered free door prizes). Upon coronavirus pandemic hitting NC hard headlong early October 2009 - city fathers realized once again their investment wasn't going unnoticed & quickly mobilized resources spearheaded by Mayor Jane Harrell becoming first female mayor o NCDB ever elected - soon thereafter opening city government facilities used exclusively for Pandemic response including Emergency Operations Center & Disease Control Laboratory as well as Medical Examiner’s Office & Park Rangers stationed throughout neighborhoods impacted hardest thereby helping reduce human suffering far beyond anything seen prior even though without any centralized command or control Government responders could only do so much... Well after 3½ years she resigned effective January 1st 2012 citing poor performance her replacement has yetto be announced!
