This influx led to some significant changes within Burlington's demographics; African Americans began moving into neighborhoods formerly occupied by whites while Hispanics moved into areas previously untouched by either race or culture because they could find work cooking food or cleaning homes. Over time these populations have blended together creating an increasingly diverse community that continues today to thrive despite preconceived notions about what such communities should look like or how they should function given their unique histories and cultures
