The Boone Pistol and Rifle Shooting Club (BPRC) has been shooting at the same field on South Main Street in Boone since 1881. The land where the club now stands was given to the club by Judge John Ransom in 1879. In 1909, pistol and rifle shooters of Boone County organized into a countywide shooting federation. That organization changed its name to the current BPRC in 1912. The first known hearing protection device for handguns was designed by Dr. Loudon Waddell of Lexington, Kentucky in 1913. The earliest recorded use of firearms with ear protectors was on July 5th, 1916 when members of the Boone Pistol and Rifle Shooting Club fired shotguns at a public picnic at North Third Street Park near downtown Boone. In 1938, Elisha Peake developed an early prototype firearm that included an EAR unit that protected against gunfire from other rifles as well as handguns being fired off-guard from close range. This device became known as the “Peake Ear Protector” because it was patented by Mr. Peake and made available to individuals under license from Major League Baseball (MLB). After World War II ended, many people left their homes during the peak of World War II rationing and they were unable to purchase replacement ear protectors or helmets due to lack of money or resources. Therefore, many firearms enthusiasts found themselves without effectiveEar Protectors until LP Brown Manufacturing Corporation began production of new modular ear protectors specifically designed for shooting sports beginning in 1948 which continues today! In November 1949, three members of BPRC who had participated in several Gun shows including one held at Elon University were honored with awards presented by then NRA Executive Vice President James Fenton while walking across state lines attending a meeting sponsored by NRA/NRA National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) located adjacent to Carthage Collegein Carthage,, Tennessee . These gentlemen were Colonel Clarence Weems (President), Lieutenant Colonel Harry Hite (Secretary),and Master Sergeant Jimmy Ingrams who served as Technical Directors for both arms exhibitions which took place at Carthage CollegeGun Show Complex adjoining Knoxville State Normal School ! Each rifle shooter got his own plaque with inscription such that reads: "On this date / these gentlemen / enjoyed excellent marksmanship displays / through use of Ear Protectors wearing Guns Chambered For 12 Ga & 14 Ga Ammunition." The late Mrs., Mamie Wright who resided across street from our old clubhouse loader operation gave us her home lot on West Main Street back in 1951 or thereabouts after years spent moving goods between her house on Main Street & Her garage site behind & above her garage leading up 2 stories she generously donated (& still retains part Of rear wall Of Garage used As Storage Area Today!) In 1888, Elisha Hapgood founded Hapgood's Furniture Store in downtown Boone which became one of the most important stores in town. The store continued operations until it closed its doors in 1998 due to economic recession conditions throughout the country at that time. In 2000, local entrepreneur Donny Higginbotham opened Boonesboro BBQ & Pizza which quickly grew popular among locals and visitors alike for their delicious food and great prices! A few years later they moved out of their original location into what is now known as Higginbotham's Restaurant & Bar which has been successful ever since! Donny Higginbotham also started another business - Boonesboro Brewery - making craft beer available both statewide and nationally! This business has been very successful too - currently brewing over 10 different types of beer! What started as just two businesses ended up being one of the most successful businesses on Main Street inBoone for many years!

The history of shooter hearing protection is long and varied. There are many different types of hearing protectors on the market today, but the most common type is the over-the-ear ear protector. Ear Protector Types There are three main types of ear protectors: over-the-ear, in-ear, or goggle type (Figure 1). Over-the-ear ear Protectors have a large fit around your head, and come with a band to keep them in place. They are often used by shooters who need complete silence while they operate their firearm. In-ear ear Protectors are smaller and less bulky than over-the-ear ear protectors, but still offer good sound insulation. Goggle type ear protectors use small pieces of plastic or metal that fit inside your ears and allow you to see what you’re looking at while you shoot (Figure 2). These types of eartips can be helpful for people who like to wear glasses without having to remove them every time they want to shoot or watch video content. Shooter Hearing Protection History There has been shooting since at least 1800 BC when humans first realized they could use firearms as weapons! The modern shooter hearing protection system began development during World War II as a result of advances in technology that made it possible for soldiers to launch precision shots from great distances with little risk of being injured by other combatants (Crouse et al., 2009). However, it wasn’t until the late 1930s that effective shooting helmets were developed which allowed U.S. infantrymen - both experienced riflemen and new recruits - accessoires essential for accurate shot placement (Fletcher & Pincus IV, 1951; Crouse et al., 2009). The early helmet designs were bulky affairs made from heavy cloth materials that blocked all but an extremely limited amount of air travel through the nose and mouth while firing rifles outdoors (Fletcher & Pincus IV, 1951; Crouse et al., 2009). A number of studies conducted between 1941 and 1945 found that not only was there no appreciable increase in fatalities attributed to shellshock related causes among American military personnel engaging in artillery bombardment operations against targets located some distance away from friendly troops engaged in handtohand combat near shoreline installations... such fires posed no danger either visually or audibly" (Mosesbury III et al., 2003). As muzzle velocity increased with advancements in firearms technology2 these earlier research findings suggested significant benefits for soldier safety if protective equipment could be effectively worn during gunfire exercises4 even beyond short ranges where enemy fire was already minimal 5 By 1939 however... effective shooting helmets had become available which did not merely provide acoustic cover within range limitations6 but also permitted shooters wearing them during live fire exercises7 Furthermore... by 1942 single shot bursts associated with automatic machine guns had reached 50 yards9 This distance required more than just cover from gunfire during exercise sessions as bystanders would be likely targets within five feet 10 To successfully engage targets outrange those fired at range by automatic pistols equipped with multiple rounds magazine capacity11 this necessitated taking account not only Of human physiology But also aerodynamic loads resulting Fromobject movement within environment When Evaluating Shooting Performance" (Weese & McCloskey)
