Boone is a town located in the U.S. state of North Carolina. The population was 1,564 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg County, NC Metropolitan Statistical Area. Boone is one of several towns in Mecklenburg County that were founded by Scots-Irish immigrants during the late 18th and early 19th centuries as a way to escape religious persecution in their homeland, Ireland. The Scots-Irish culture has been preserved and continue to play an important role in Boone's community life today. The first settler in Boone was John Combs, who arrived in 1799 from Scotland. He named his tract of land "Combs' Landing", after his father-in-law, James Combs (1686–1751). In 1828, David Hardesty settled on a piece of land adjacent to Combs Landing and named it "Hardesty's Landing". Hardesty became successful logging and agriculture businesses throughout much of Mecklenburg County until he died in 1895 at age 88 years old. His wife Maudie (1868–1954), widow of John Aiken (1860–1945), started a small grocery store on her husband's farmstead near what is now Park Square Shopping Center east of downtown Boone with help from her daughters Ella Mae Hinson (1920–1998) and Nellie Mae Hinson Freeman (1925–1999). For many years she operated out of her home until moving into her current building on Main Street just north of First Baptist Church in 2006; this building also served as the first branch office for Southern Appalachian Television Company which later merged with WECT/CW Broadcasting Company to form The CW Network effective January 11, 2007. In 1906, Daniel Boone purchased two parcels totaling six acres south of where Park Square Shopping Center now stands from Elisha Saunders & Son; these tracts were renamed "Boone's Ranch" after Daniel Boone himself. Many landmark buildings were built here including: the first post office under present day name - called simply "Post Office" until 1899 when it changed its name to "Mornhinny Post Office" - which was built c 1870 by Revd Jesse Moss; schoolrooms for grades K through 8 along with vocational hall and garage; churches such as First Baptist Church - established 1692 - Stated Building Commission meetinghouse remodeled 1893; Presbyterian church constructed 1925; Male Division Store built 1924 - still functions as store today known as Piggly Wiggly supermarket After World War II many people left eastern Tennessee for jobs opportunities available elsewhere but some residents stayed behind to raise families or take advantage of new technology like television which had just become available This led to developers coming up with the idea to build what would become known as Park Square Shopping Center across from First Baptist Church back thenknown simply as Main Street . This shopping center eventually became home to various convenience stores such as Supercuts before being reborn again as Park Square Mall when independent mall developer/operator Bruce Harrell bought it November 16th 2009 for $350 million making him America’s youngest ever mall owner . Boones Hardware Store closed business operations December 15th 1989 due lack market demand however reopened May 25th 2015 under new ownership with vacant space next door remaining unoccupied since that date

They were called “lance d’araignée” and their purpose was to guide artillery fire by illuminating an enemy encampment with a short shaft of light. The French military began using these lights during the Napoleonic Wars in order to identify friendly troops across long distances and track them down during battlefield engagements. In 1835, American Captain John Fisk used a small carbine-mounted light known as a “Fisker” for illumination on board his ship, USS Constitution while sailing through Spanish waters near Manila Bay. This wasthe first time that guns had been fired from an openboat and it also marked the beginning of naval gunfire Use on land during World War II which would eventually lead to true night warfare over large areas

On January 17, 1825, the first permanent settler in what became Boone was James A. Boone. He and his family founded a cabin on the Pisgah River. The Boones were an important early family in central North Carolina and their descendants continue to live in Boone today. The area that is now Boone was originally hunted by the Cherokee for food and shelter. In 1794, George Catawba Indian Chief named the area after John Randolph, 3rd Duke of York (1754-1827), who had bought land from the Cherokees. The name Randolph refers to one of Catawba's two sons, James Randolph (1729-1800). The other son, Richard Randolph (1759-1832), also purchases land in this area and naming it after his father. Colonel John Byrom began settlement around 1800 near present day Boone but abandoned it due to lack of water power. In 1819 General Robert Ewell led a military expedition against the Cherokee in what is now Pickens County. After capturing several villages including Etowah Lake, Ewell burned most of their homes and stores before withdrawing back into Georgia with his forces emptyhanded. This event is known as the Battle of Yellow Tavern Mountain which destroyed much Cherokee property within days of its occurrence and laid waste to many plantations nearby including those owned by Captain John Smithson and Daniel Boone himself. In 1821 Sam Houston mounted an unsuccessful campaign against Mexico during which he lost many men along with some cannons used by Houston's troops at San Jacinto Heights outside Austin Texas on February 6th 1836 - this event is commonly referred to as "The Alamo" or "The Battle of Bear Creek." On July 10, 1860 Major General Nathan Bedford Forrest attacked Union forces at Bentonville Arkansas during what is known as " fought between Fort Sumter & Fort Donelson." Confederate General Robert Ewell ordered all artillery within range to open fire upon Union soldiers under orders from Confederate President Jefferson Davis who believed that such an attack would demoralize Union troops leading to a successful Confederate counterattack later that day resulting in over 200 killed or wounded among both sides UNTIL THE Brigadier General David Dennison ordered all units stopfire due to fears for civilian casualties caused by artillery shelling
