This Founding Father of Asheville also started First National Bank & Trust Company (now NCUA) which served as one of central banking institutions for much of North Carolina until 1913 when statehood led to changes within that institution which made it difficult to compete with state-owned banks across the state line; this eventually led First National into bankruptcy shortly thereafter before being purchased by Wachovia Corporation in 1995 whereupon it resumed operations under new management providing banking services throughout western North Carolina until 2011 when it merged with Wells Fargo McCloskey Banks Inc., creating one large bank serving over 500 branches nationally including 100+ located inside Greater Asheville itself!
