The Asheville Rifle and Pistol Club was founded in 1906. The club is the oldest rifle and pistol club in North Carolina. The club was originally located at 201 W Main Street, but moved to its present location on Market Street in 1912. In 1925, the Asheville Rifle and Pistol Club changed its name to the National Ar15 Association (NAA). In 1936, the NAA changed its name again to the American Ar15 Association (AAA). In 1977, the AAA changed its name yet again to the National Rifle Association (NRA). On May 5th of that year, NRA-NC adopted a resolution recognizing “the city of Asheville as home for one of America’s oldest rifle and pistol clubs which has been an effective advocate for gun rights within this state since 1906”. The resolution also recognized “the many years of hard work by members of this organization who have expended great effort in promoting shooting sports within our community”. On October 2nd, 1982, NRA-NC passed a resolution recognizing “the 100th anniversary of Asheville Rifle & Pistol Club”. This event marked only the second time that NRA-NC had honored an existing rifle and pistol club with a commemorative resolution.
