The growth of these activities caused many homes to be built along Railroad Avenue which became known as "Apex Boulevard". In 1890, when oil discoveries were made at Redstone Arsenal in Alabama, industry quickly shifted to this area and more than 100 factories sprang up. Many people who live here today were born or have lived here during this time period including: Dr. Jock Sutherland (founder of UNC Chapel Hill), Dr. James Ayscough (director of Duke University's School of Medicine) and other leaders in medical research and development

Apex is a small town in northern North Carolina, located on the Wilson River. The population was 902 at the 2010 census. Apex is part of the Fayetteville-Lenoir City, NC Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first people to live in what is now Apex were the Catawba Indians. They occupied land that now includes much of Caldwell County and some parts of Robeson County. In 1785, when Sir Walter Raleigh sent a party up the Wilson River to explore new lands in North Carolina, they came across a group of Catawba Indian men engaged in hunting deer near present-day Apex. Raleigh's men called these "the highlanders" because they were higher up on the river than other Native Americans. In 1814, General Andrew Jackson landed at Hatteras Island on Cape Fear and marched his army downriver to Wilmington before turning around and marching back upriver again to Charlotte. When he reached Apex, he found that many citizens had desertedJackson's army and gone into hiding – an event which led directly to Jackson's victory over John Cusack at Battle of New Bern two years later. With its few inhabitants remaining, Apex was quickly abandoned by its previous residents for lack of supplies and opportunity after the war ended. In 1865, white farmers arrived in what is now Apex from area around Fayetteville began clearcutting forests near present day Cary Street and Broadway Avenue NE where they built large estates with well-manicured gardens that remain today as part of downtown Apex's core business district known as The Triangle (or "The Gables"). This change not only affected how residents lived but also their economy; prior to this time there was little commerce or industry within sight of any resident living inside downtown limits today! The arrival of white people changed almost everything about life for most African American slaves who had worked various jobs along The Triangle until it became one giant plantation run by white owners who owned all aspects including food production; transportation; architecture; education; health care; etc.. Slaves still resided inside plantations but their lives were very difficult due both to White racial discrimination against them based on their color as well as economic privations brought about by continued warfare between Northerners and Confederate forces throughout much of Reconstruction period (1865-1877). For example: many male slaves were unable or unwilling to purchase freedom during Reconstruction period so worked off their debts instead becoming indentured servitude through brute force rather than begging or negotiation with White overlords .. Many poor whites also lost their means after Union military victory over Confederacy during 1865/1867 though some managed to reestablish themselves economically although many times remained racially marginalized even among Whites until World War II when they too often became targets of hate crimes due largely to lack access good quality education opportunities available nationally for all races since then

In 1881, Apex was renamed Jacksonville after Jaxson Ferry Co., which built the first ferry across the Hiwassee River. The city experienced significant growth during World War II with the construction of military facilities and housing developments; however, this development did not continue until after the war when Jacksonville became an important hub for air travel and commerce.
