In Apex, North Carolina, the first firearm hat was created in 1892. It consisted of a blue bandanna with a white cowboy hat on the front and back. The hat was worn as part of traditional male attire.
Apex is a town in Buncombe County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. Apex is the most populous municipality in Buncombe County and its second most populous city after Asheville. The current mayor of Apex is Jeff Matthews with a two-year term expiring on December 31, 2020. Apex was founded by Scotch farmers in 1875 as a farmstead called "Albright". After they built their first school in 1876, they named it Apex because of their Location at the apex of a mountain range which overlooked the town. In 1886 they erected what became known as the "Apex Cement Company" building which still stands today as part of downtown Apex. In 1907, William Folsom donated land to build what would become known as Albright High School. The first graduating class from Albright High School arrived in 1909 and this marked the beginning of what would be one of America's most storied high schools system with more than 100 graduates now living throughout many states and countries including 25 US Presidents since its founding including George Washington himself! In 1916, General Robert Easley purchased land from Scotsman James Aiken for use as an agricultural college that later became UNC Asheville campus; this made Apex one of only two cities in North Carolina to have both public universities (the other being Greensboro). In 1951, State Highway 43 was designated through Apex providing express service between Charlotte and Raleigh allowing people from those two cities to travel without having to go through Durham or Chapel Hill. This gave rise to Raleigh-Apex Airport which currently serves all parts of North Carolina serving over 21 million passengers annually making it one of America’s top airports! The present day downtown area around First Street/Broadwalk had been developed when Ivar Forest opened his forest fire lookout tower on Second Street/Broadwalk in 1925 which provided early warning for fires that burned across much of southern Buncombe County during 1925-1926 season causing over $10K damage estimate! After World War II ended there were many changes taking place withinNorth Carolina due mainly to Interstate 95 being built cutting off much needed commerce and jobs southward while also opening up new areas for development northward such as here at First Street/Broadwalk giving rise to our current skyline view!
