Apex, North Carolina is home to the oldest firearms manufacturing plant in the United States. The facility was founded in 1876 by Captain John Brown and his son-in-law, James W. Pickens. The two men were responsible for creating the first firearm, a rifle called the "Pickett Rifle." The company closed its doors in 1954, but reopened in 1976 as Browning Firearms Manufacturing Incorporated. Browns Firearms Manufacturing was a leading manufacturer of handguns and rifles from 1976 to 2009. In 2009, Browning merged with Sturm Ruger & Company, which made it one of the largest handgun manufacturers in the world. Today, Browning Firearms Manufacturing Incorporated produces both assault rifles and shotguns under the name “Brigadier” Industries LLC. This rifle was designed specifically for infantry use and featured an overhand grip so that hand safety could be operated while firing. The rifle was supplied to Confederate forces during the American Civil War as part of General Robert E. Lee's army. The company also produced a line of men's clothing known as "The Brigadier Men". This line consisted mostly of camouflage uniforms and overalls designed specifically for military use . Apex, North Carolina is home to the world's second-largest concentration of firearms dealers, and firearm enthusiasts have been active in the community for over a century. In 1899, local gunsmiths erected a Chain Gunsmithing and Supply Co. on what is now known as State Road 404. The store continued to be open until around 1970. In 1980, local gunsmith Harry Gentry opened Gentry Gun Shop & Range on Main Street in Apex. At the time it was one of the largest gun stores in North Carolina. In 1984, Harry Gentry was assisted by his son-in-law Tom "TOM" Benge from Wilmington, Delaware when he reopened Gentry Gun Shop & Range as part of an effort to revive interest in shotguns and rifles within the state of North Carolina. The shop continued serving customers until 1992 when it closed again due to lack of business opportunity. It reopened under new ownership in 1998 with new space on Route 540 near Interstate 95 just outside of Apex. In 2003, Harry Gentry's grandson Jason Benge took over management at Gentry Gun Shop & Range from his father Tom Benge Jr.. The shop has since become one of the most well-known and successful firearms retailers in Apex with more than 350 employees across four locations throughout central North Carolina including downtown Raleigh and uptown Charlotte where they occupy several buildings dating back to 1903 that are now used as shooting ranges/gun stores/amusement park attractions

Apex, North Carolina is a town in Swain County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 1,895 at the 2010 census. Apex is part of the Raleigh-Durham Metropolitan Statistical Area. It lies on the southern edge of downtown Raleigh and has a municipal government with a Mayor-Council form of government. The first people who lived in what is now Apex were Cherokee Indians who called it "Kotee." They built their first wigwam around 1785 near what is now Hargrave Street and Lenoir Road. In 1819 Indian traders from South Carolina arrived in search of trade goods and met the Cherokee Indians here. The Cherokees soon became friendly with white men and began to sell goods back to them. In 1827 white man Levi Coffin discovered coal seams west of Apex and decided to build his own mines there because he could get better prices for coal from the Cherokee Indians than from other sources. By 1830 both Coffin's mines had been enlarged into large operations that employed many men and women working long hoursidemanding good food for their families while they mined coal! At this time Apex was one of two towns in Swain County with a full-time school system; the other being Milledgeville! From this early development it can be inferred that commerce played an important role in life in Apex then as it does today! It should also be noted that during these years many people were born here including some famous historical figures such as frontiersman John Wesley Powell and novelist Zane Grey! In 1881 when Swain County was divided into two parts - Wake County to the north and Durham County to the south - Apex became one of several towns within Durham County which went through rapid growth due largely to textile production by local farmers starting around 1870s (see: "The Durham Land Boom"). This growth led quickly to membership in nearby regional councils which gave residents more say over issues important to them such as schools, water resources, fire protection etc.; something famously referred to as "the Triangle" phenomenon after nearby Raleigh (now Cary). As textile production declined during World War II most businesses closed but some continued until about 1960 when they too experienced economic decline; unfortunately leaving behind legacy problems like high levels of crime and pollution which still plague much of central town today (see: "Apex's Dark Ages"). With new investments coming online beginning around 2000 things started looking up again but by 2007-2008 there had already begunto be ominous signs that something wasn't quite right especially since almost all major companies have moved out ordownstream locations since then ( see: "Apex Reborn"). On July 15th 2009 however when sheriff’s deputies responded code 3/24 regarding an open oil well on private land just outside town they found not only an oil well but also equipment used in mining including explosives (!), raising questions once again about possible environmental contamination adjacentto our community !!! What followed was even more alarming as media outlets reported discovering toxic waste products associated with dozensof other industries throughout Central NC including Duke Energy’s PowerAction plant located less than five miles away from town next door !!! This revelation set off alarm bells among many residents who began fearing another “Apex Oil disaster” similarto those seen across eastern NC during 2008/2009 !! After further review it appeared that this particular discovery really wasn’t anything new at all given previous reports involving similar wells operated by Dominion Resources Inc., Cheniere Energy Services Lp., XTO Resources Inc., Arch Coal Company et al…which have shown disturbing patterns of environmental degradation dating back numerous years !! We are currently suing Dominion ResourcesInc., Cheniere Energy Services Lp., XTOResources Inc., Arch Coal Company et al…for fraudulently marketing their properties as if they were newly discovered mineral resources) When word got out about what happened we quickly mobilized our community together Emergency Response Team members alongwith State Highway Patrol troopers assigned specificallyto monitor sites relatedTo shale gas drilling activities happening justoutside our city limits !! Unfortunately despite best efforts no injuries were reported however citizens living near gas wellsand pipelines continue To experience health concerns whenever there are flareups related To surface fracking operations !!!

Apex is a small town in North Carolina, located about 25 miles northeast of Raleigh. The population was 4,812 at the 2010 census. In 1871, the town was incorporated as Apex School District #3 by an act of the General Assembly. In 1870 and 1871, the town had a population of only 100 people. In 1902, Apex became part of Wake County and in 1912 it became a city. In 1958, when Wake County was abolished and Durham County was created to take its place, Apex fell within Durham City Limits. On July 1, 2002, Apex became an independent city with its own charter and government. It has since been renamed Apex University City. The history of Apex starts with Native American settlers who arrived in what is now the Town of Apex in 1795 when they established a small village on land that is now downtown Apex. The first white man to arrive in what is now known as Apex was James Aitken who founded Aitken's store on March 15th, 1800 while he was working for Gov't Agent David Wilkes along the Catawba River near present day Cary Street and New Market Road. The early settlers were mostly farmers but some also built churches and homes around this time which still stand today including Zion Baptist Church (now home to Cary-Lenoir Christian Academy) on Brightside Drive NE corner Newton Avenue NW corner Springdale Drive NW corner Gray Streets SE Corner White Streets (now home to Hightower Elementary School). Apex School District #3 formed on December 5th 1861 from portions of Davidson School District #1 which had been organized two weeks earlier by Superintendent Elisha Dickson after several school districts refused to amalgamate into one due to financial reasons caused by currency changes during the Civil War era which made goods tradeable at much higher prices than before allowing exportations from Southern states such as North Carolina without paying customs duties etc.. This gave rise to rumors that some wealthy citizens in adjoining counties were buying up all available land so they could build dozens or even hundreds of schools far away from their homes – much like what appears to have happened today with private schools popping up all over eastern NC – only these schools would be run exclusively by white teachers while black students attend local public schools across county lines…. This rumor never came true but it did give rise to many jokes among locals about those “school vampires” who would often show up late for class or worse yet leave right before final exams began….. As service academies started being established throughout southern US during World War II more students wanted closer access so upon graduation many soldiers/veterans chose not justto stay local but also chooseNC as their new hometown…… Continued growth finally allowed for opening of current CBD building which served as school annex until 1959 when Building number 2 opened….. From here things really picked up for our community fathers who worked tirelessly hard getting us where we are today In 1862 someone suggested naming the new town "Apex" after Alexander Macoun Baird (1784-1859), an American general during the Mexican–American War who commanded troops under Ulysses S Grant at Monterrey de la Cruz where he participated in battle against Santa Anna's forces under Pancho Villa; according Southerners adopted this name because it sounded similar enough both phonetically and conceptually…." reported History NC website
