The history of binoculars in Apex, North Carolina goes back to at least the early 1800s. There is evidence that binoculars were used by Native Americans for hunting and tracking along the Indian Boundary in what is now Apex. By 1875, a group of gentlemen from Raleigh, North Carolina had started manufacturingbinoculars for sale in their town. The first examples of modern-day binoculars were made in 1913 by a company called Litton Manufacturing Company. Binoculars became very popular after World War I when they were introduced as a tool for military and navigation purposes. After the war, people started using binoculars more regularly to see things around them more clearly.

Apex is a town in Gaston County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 10,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Greensboro–Winston-Salem–High Point Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first European to visit Apex was Captain James Cook on his third voyage of HMS "Endeavour" on October 26, 1768. He named it after Admiral Sir John Aiken's flagship HMS "Aurora". During the American Revolution (1775-1783), Apex served as a garrison for Fort McHenry which guarded Baltimore Harbor and was also home to British forces during that time period. In 1814, the U.S Navy built a battery here to protect Charlotte Amalie Island from Mexican warships which could have landed troops to seize it. The fortifications were abandoned in 1840 and replaced by town buildings but are still visible from the road leading into town today. In 1865, General Beauregard captured Raleigh while trying to land Confederate prisoners near Wake Forest University where he had been prisoner since April 25th of that year. While retreating across North Carolina he left behind an artillery train including two howitzers and four guns along with 45 barrels of powder and 2200 rounds of cannonballs at Raleigh's Trinity Churchyard Battery; one remaining gun still stands today at Chapel Hill's Kingsbury School property next door to what used to be King's Chapel School (now Brunswick Middle). After the war ended, most of this equipment was sold off or melted down and never recovered so all we have left are these pesky cannons! In 1892 when local entrepreneur Jno Burch published his book "A History of Gaston County", he included information about Raleigh's past in connection with its affiliation with both North Carolina and Virginia during this time period as well as some photos taken inside Fort Davidson during that same time period (See photo below). The fortifications around present day Apex were built between 1894-1900 primarily by US Army personnel assigned here for World War I experiments involving fire testing at nearby Hillsborough Air Force Base before being abandoned soon afterward due lack of funding for their upkeep/eradication purposes after hostilities stopped in 1918; see photo below: Fort Davidson located in present day Apex circa 1900

Apex became a city in 1907 and later annexed neighboring communities, including Huntersville and Smithfield. In 1951, when Raleigh-Durham metropolitan area was created, Apex became the new city. The population of Apex peaked at over 100,000 in 2000 but has declined significantly since then. Today, Apex has a population of around 50 residents. Apex is located on the southern edge of Wake County on the Yadkin River. It straddles both banks of the river and occupies a major geographic feature within the county - it is also home to Wake Forest University which makes it an important cultural center for the area. The town lies adjacent to several other large rural areas within Wake County as well as several smaller villages and hamlets throughout its boundaries. The origins of Apex can be traced back to 1876 when Johann George Smith founded what would become known as "Apex" on land he donated near present-day Carytown Road (Route 12). At first, Apex consisted only of himself and his wife Catharine; however, due to pressure from other community members who saw potential for growth in their surroundings, Smith soon additionalized his initial holdings into numerous tracts that would eventually make up today's downtown core of Apex - including 101 acres (40 hectares) east of current day Baptist Church Street/Route 12 South - giving rise to successive iterations of what would come to be known as "Apex." In 1907, following annexation by Raleigh-Durham Metropolitan Area (Raleigh), Smythville renamed itself "Apx" after its incorporation into that larger entity; while Huntersville annexed nearby Smithfield Municipal Airport property eastward from current day Greenway Boulevard/Route 12 South starting on November 14th 1957 until May 2nd 1961 pursuant to an agreement between those municipalities which had been designated seat(s) for Raleigh-Durham metropolitan area under Executive Order No.(EO)/ program designation #1 1/2/1951 entitled "Development Of The Regional Airports Within The Wake And Durham Metropolitans." Apex was founded in 1768 as a small trading settlement on the Nash River by Quaker colonists. The town grew rapidly after the opening of the Carolina Railroad in 1887, and by 1912 it had reached its contemporary size. In 1937, Apex became a city; it has since grown to include several suburbs and an airport.
