Albemarle is a small town in North Carolina, United States. The population was 2,898 at the 2010 census. It is located in Bladen County. Albemarle is part of the Greensboro Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1792 by General James Johnston and surveyor John Catlett as a frontier post on what is now the eastern border of present-day Albemarle County. In 1802, Johnston's son, Randolph Johnston (1784-1848), established a sawmill and grist mill here that continued to operate until 1958. A post office called Albemarle was established in 1814, and remained in operation until 1865. In 1830, Randolph Johnston married Anna Dunlap; they had six children before she died in 1852. Jno Pugh (1806-1871), daughter of Planter John Pugh (1786-1857), became the first white woman to reside permanently in Albemarle when she moved from Savannah, Georgia, in 1835; she stayed until her death there two years later. Johnston Elementary School opened its doors on May 12th 1978 with grades kindergarten through 8th grade students from across central NC teaching local kids some basics about computers and algebra while creating an opportunity for many hands-on learning experiences with these new tools of learning back then!

Albemarle, North Carolina is a town in Randolph County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 2,844 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Raleigh–Durham–Fayetteville Combined Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1785 by Welsh immigrants and named for Albemarle Castle in Scotland. In 1802, Albemarle became the county seat of Randolph County while neighboring Cary was designated the county's capital. During Reconstruction years (1867-1877), Albemarle became one of six black townships in North Carolina that were established as suffrage districts with representation in the new state government. However, these townships were abolished shortly after their creation and all black residents were transferred to white townships within new Counties of Durham and Wakefield until they were finally re-established as independent municipalities during Reconstruction II (1913-1915). In 1870, Albemarle had a population of 1,527; it reached 2,000 by 1920. As a result of its size and growth during this time period – its Cotton Belt economy flourished – Albemarle achieved national recognition for its agricultural products beginning in the early 20th century. For example: In 1922, Albemarle’s first high school graduated its first class; it would soon be followed by two other schools before becoming an integrated public school system in 1960. At that time there were also several small businesses including a grocery store and a post office which remain active to this day. Today many young people attend local colleges or universities while others commute into Raleigh orDurham for jobs ashore or inland because of technological advances which have made agriculture less important on our landscape but continue to make production possible hereabouts such as greenhouses and insecticides
On Albemarle, North Carolina, the first white settlement was established in 1776 by Captain James Cook. The town of Albemarle was founded near the then present day Albemarle County. The town was named for Sir John Alexander Albrecht, 1st Baronet of Pembroke (1712-1784), a British general and statesman who served as governor of North Carolina from 1774 to 1780.
