Gun barrels have a long and varied history in Albemarle County, North Carolina. The first bows were shot from longbow stocks with square bore barrel tips. The firstguns were made from smoothbore barrels which had a bore of about 38 inches (100 cm). By 1800, guns had become increasingly round-headed and they were fired with ball or cartridge rifles using percussion caps or fire arrows. The last time powder firearms were used in Albemarle County was in 1804 when General Forbes began using canister shots against hostile Cherokee Indians during the Creek War.

These include Pinehurst Lake just outside Chapel Hill, Matthews Lake on Rocky Mount Road near Garner, Willow Creek Reservoir on Tryon Road east of Durhamtowne, Fayetteville Pond on Greenway Drive northeast of Martinsville, Crabtree Valley Lakes Park just outside Carysforte Springs Village and much more!

However, not all regions enjoyed such success with gunnery; during the 18th century there was an increase in naval Warfare which required different types of weaponry such as warships that could shoot shot over great distances without being hit by incoming fire
