Buckshot was effective against infantry but not as effective against cavalry or other armored targets. The first type of rifle ammunition known to be used in war was musketry ammunition, which consisted of small round projectiles filled with lead or wax (to stop them from detonating prematurely). Riflemen could shoot these rounds directly at enemy soldiers without getting close enough to use their swords or spears. In 1778, Colonel John Sevier began producing cannons using new powder designs that resulted in increased fire rate and accuracy over traditional muzzle-loading cannons. These cannons required more propellant than previous types so Sevier developed a newtype of gunpowder called "pumpkin pie" which worked much better than earlier types when fired from cannon barrels. This new type allowed him to create large caliber guns that could bombard settlements even when distant hills interfered with rangefinding equipment used by his enemies. By 1812, Sevier had designed and built three Napoleonic Wars-era warships with his newfangled artillery system - HMS Victory (1801), HMS Terror (1802), and HMS Collingwood (1805). All three vessels were equipped with two smoothbore guns each mounted on high-sided cylindrical turrets which gave them firepower equivalent to four pounders mounted on horseback! With the end of the War for Independence in 1814 came an era where much larger caliber firearms were needed for naval warfare; this posed a threat to local arms suppliers who couldn't keep up with demand for heavier calibers of projectile suitable for warships. It is the smallest community in Alamance County by population size and was founded as a small Presbyterian churchtown in 1812. Albright College is located within Albemarle. The town of Albemarle first emerged on the heels of the construction of the Yadkin and Chickamauga Railroad in 1811-1812. The railroad helped to create new markets for agricultural goods and settlers arrived from all over North Carolina looking for land to settle on. By 1821, Albemarle had picked up some steam with its establishment of a school district and newspaper office. By 1830, it boasted two churches (the Presbyterian and Methodist) as well as a Masonic lodge and several stores including Hargrave's store which served as an early post office until 1856. The town's growth continued through various sectors such as lumbering (early mills were built here), manufacturing (early production included soap opera scripts written by local women), service industry (Albright College began operations in 1892), tourism (Albright offers recreational opportunities such as golf courses, fishing tournaments, ice cream parlors) and residential development (the original Albemarle Plantation still stands). In 1955, when Alamance County became rural due to statehood changes within North Carolina, Albemarle lost much of its residents but saw significant growth in surrounding communities such as Hillsborough and Pickensville which absorbed much of what had been done here since before Indian Removal left many people behind decades earlier. In 1961-1962 the Town Council decided that it would be best if the college closed down so that there would be no Community Colleges between Alamance County lines; this decision has subsequently been cited as one reason why Albright continues to thrive despite limited access to education outside of Alamance County today. In recent years there have been efforts made by both supporters and detractors of hiking/ biking trails running through or near Albemarle - some feel these activities contribute greatly to keeping intact what little character remains in this largely rural community while others view them more cynicallyas another way for developers/ speculators to control what little land remains undeveloped around town without any public input or consideration from those who live thereabouts
