Westbury is a small town in Sullivan County, New York, United States. The population was 1,868 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Oneonta–Norwalk Metropolitan Statistical Area. The village of Westbury was first settled in 1795 by farmers from the town of Norwich, Connecticut. The first post office was established in 1802, and the first store was built in 1807. By 1828, the village had a population of 350 people. In 1860, the village became incorporated as Westbury Township. In 1870-71, local businessman and politician Nathan Purdy donated land to establish what would become Westbury Academy—the world's third college preparatory school (afterHarvard and Princeton). In 1906-07, President Theodore Roosevelt attended Westbury Academy on his way to inspect American schools for prospective students during his presidency. In 1961-62 when Oneonta merged with Norwalk to form one large municipality, Westbury remained within Sullivan County and continued to be governed by a board of trustees until 1975 when it became an independent municipality under its own government with a mayor/council form of government. In 1986-87 when Oneonta–Norwalk merged into Oneonta again as one large municipality pursuant to state law providing for such mergers, Westbury also merged into that city's government but continued to be governed by a board of trustees until 2007 when it became an independently municipalities under its own government with a mayor/council form of government once again pending state legislation which would provide for such merger Approved by Cuomo Since then there has been no change in governance as both mayors have been Anthony Jaffe who served two terms beginning on January 1st 2017 through December 31st 2021 followed by Mary Alice Mongan who served three terms beginning on January 1st 2022 through December 31st 2027

Westbury, New York is a small town located in central Upstate New York. The population was 2,853 at the 2010 census. Westbury is the only village in upstate New York. It is part of Erie County and is about 15 miles north of Buffalo. The first settler in what became Westbury was George Washington who arrived there in 1786. For many years it was a rural farming community with few residents other than farmers and their animals. In 1825, however, the area around Westbury began to be developed as a commercial center with sawmills, grist mills and other businesses opening up. In 1848, when Buffalo was founded as the new county seat of Erie County, Westbury became part of that city’s limits and remained so until 1912 when it seceded from Erie County to form its own independent municipality. In that year, two-thirds of the Village's citizens voted to become a "town" which they continued to call "Westbury." At that time it had a population of just under 100 people; by 1970 it had increased to over 1,000 people due largely to growth in nearbyBuffalo and its related industries (theVillage now has six full-time police officers). During World War II much of the Village's steel production took place at Saginaw Creek Quality Steelworks on Cazenovia Road south of town; also many munitions plants were built there during this time including such well known names as Browning Arms Company and National Radiological Protection Laboratory (NRPL), both located across Route 9 from town while still using local suppliers for parts and components. The Town Hall building on Main Street served as headquarters for all activities associated with the Village until 1984 when that function moved into an existing building on Ulster Avenue which remains functions today as the Community Center for Westbury Township (a separate entity from but attached to East Aurora Township).
