Westbury is a town in Sullivan County, New York, United States. The population was 7,907 at the 2010 census. Westbury is part of the Syracuse–New York Metropolitan Area. The first settlers to the area that would become Westbury were farmers and their families who arrived from Connecticut in 1684. They built a small cabin on what later became Jericho Road. The first post office was established in 1797. In 1837, the village of Westbury was formed from parts of the original town and Poquonock Township. In 1868, all of Sullivan County was created andWestbury became a part of it. By 1925, most businesses had been closed down or moved away as farming became more difficult due to changing weather patterns and technology improvements such as tractors and radios which made it easier for farmers to market their products throughout much of America. However, some businesses still survived including an ice cream parlor which opened in 1935 until it closed in 1984 due to economic difficulties; one pharmacy located off Route 9; two grocery stores; two schools - one high school (now known as Mohawk Valley Community School) and one middle school (now known as Central High School); a movie theater; several churches including First Presbyterian Church (now called Christ Episcopal Cathedral), Second Presbyterian Church (Now Stroudsburg United Methodist church), Methodist Episcopal Zion Church-Lutheran (Now Bethel AME church), Baptist Churches - First Baptist Church & Second Baptist Churches-Allentown Avenue Chapel & Third Avenue Chapel; an auto dealership; three blacksmiths - Sometimey'smith Shop & Forge Shop #1&2.; three wheelwrights - Jansen's forge shop #1 & 2.; four gas wells with accompanying pipelines - Well No 1 oil well #1 producing gasoline at $2 per barrel from 1916 until its production ended in 1967 when it was sold for development by Conoco Phillips Corporation ; three wood stove factories: Atherton Manufacturing Company produced wood stoves Nos 3 thru 5 1942-1945; Knowlton Manufacturing Company produced wood stove Nos 6 thru 8 1944-1945 both located on Allentown Ave., now Hoffman Estates Blvd.; Summit Manufacturing company produced wood stove Nos 9 thru 11 1945 only Summit building remains today

Some even used vehicles or boats filled with explosives as weaponsariums capable of sinking ships or blowing up buildings while leaving survivors stranded onland - all without ever having fired a shot! Westbury was once a small town in upstate New York. The population of the town decreased as farming and manufacturing left for more industrialized areas, but it continued to exist until the early 21st century. The first European settlers arrived in what is now Westbury in 1664. The area that is now Westbury was part of the Dutch colony of New Netherland. In 1724, the British took over the Dutch colony and made it an part of Great Britain. The first settler in what is now Westbury was Nicholas White. He built a cabin on his land in 1727. In 1810, John Demarest moved from Dutchess County, New York to purchase 640 acres of land east of what is now Westbury Village. He named his new settlement after his father-in-law, George Demarest, who had died two years earlier. Demarest started producing flour from his mill and selling it to local merchants and farmers. By 1828, he had erected a frame house near where he still lives today as well as four other buildings including a barn and three slaves’ quarters. Afterdemanding trade guarantees from Washington during the Panic of 1837, Demarest abandoned his operations at home around 1840 while traveling to Niagara Falls on business purposes; however some reports claim that he may have returned later that year with enough flour and equipment to reopen operation (Fowler). In 1847–48, Daniel Webster decided that western New York should be organized into townships because “the advantages attending such organization would be too great for them not to be realized hereby” (Webster). Webster formed one such township called Mechanicsville which included all present-day eastern Monroe County except for parts of Wayne County west of Seneca Lake (Fowler). In 1850s when Webster ran for Congress against Andrew Jackson II, he won only 8 percent of the popular vote but 5 percent in westernNewYorktownships because most respectable electors refused to support him because they felt Jackson would benefit from centralization (Doyle). One reason why this occurred could have been due to Webster’s lackof understanding about rural life outside Albany or Buffalo: people here were usedtoconsult with government officials about their concerns without havingtotravel far away like those living in upstate New York City did at the time (Fowler).During Webster’s term as congressman there were many important bills passed including one that established public education throughout WesternNewYorktownships although its implementation wasn’t completed until after his death by orderof President James Buchanan; this bill soughtto give children access totraditional schools despite protests by parents wanting their childrenTo learn common knowledge rather than just mathematics and science objects (Doyle). The town was organized on February 12,1768, by Order in Council from King George III. It was named for a large estate in England that had been given to General James Clinton by the British Crown.
