During World War II, Westbury produced munitions for B-29 bombers flying over Manhattan Island; after hostilities ended in 1945, many businesses closed but some continued production until 1949 when all manufacturing ceased except for light engineering products which continue today as Eastman Kodak Company's headquarters campus (now known as One Financial Center). This period coincided with an influx of new residents into town who were attracted by its access to education and job opportunities at Eastern State Penitentiary (now Seneca Correctional Facility) as well as its proximity to downtown Syracuse. After years of decline starting around1980s due to factors such as suburbanization and global competition.,the economy began to grow again during the 2000s with investments including: real estate development including One Financial Center; trucking services that have led to increased business activity along Route 10; infrastructure projects such as: roads; bridges; airports; water systems

Westbury, New York is a town in Sullivan County, New York, United States. The population was 1,865 at the 2010 census. The town is named after Westbury Manor in London, England. It is located on the Mohawk River east of Syracuse and west of Rochester. The first settler in what is now Westbury was George Downing who arrived in 1784. He built a cabin on the banks of the Mohawk River and named it Westbury Manor after his home country of England. Downing also bought 640 acres (2 km²) of land from the Indians for $5 per acre (1/4 bushel). In 1805 he sold his holdings to John Purdy and Samuel Parsons for $35 per acre (1/4 bushel). Samuel Parsons developed what are now Spring Hill and Elmira townships into villages with their own post office in 1811; these were known as Canandaigua and Rome because they were near by both those cities. In 1813 Norwich became the seat ofgovernment when it separated from Rome under Ulysses S. Grant’s administration following the Treaty of Ghent which ended the war between Great Britain and America. When Canandaigua village later became part of Rochester, its name reverted to Norwich because that was where Rochester lay at the time.Although Westbury had no paper currency until 1865 there were two buildings still standing from early 1800s- one being called "The Bank" which stands today on Main Street just south of Route 10 while another building known as The Grange which stood on old Road 8 opposite modern day parking lot #9 has beenPreserved by NY State Historic Preservation Office as a "Benedict Arnold House". In 1861 during Civil War General Lee's army attacked East Aurora without warning leading to an intense battle that left three men dead including Captain John Fordyce who led militia forces against Confederate Colonel John Armstrong who had opened fire!East Aurora's only store closed down due to Union attack but reopened again afterwards under new ownership- this store would become wellknown as Empire Hardware dating back to 1872!Both buildings have since been torn down leaving nothing remaining except foundations Although no longer used for housing or commercial purposes it remains an interesting landmark today serving as a museum open daily 9am - 5pm
